Thanks!

Hm, thats weird, since at a first glance I don't see anything why native ATLAS should not run on your Lubuntu machine.
Accroding to the "return 3" error code that is given by the ATLAS run script (see here https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/result.php?resultid=211183308), it could not run the command "singularity exec -B /cvmfs /cvmfs/atlas.cern.ch/repo/images/singularity/x86_64-slc6.img hostname" or the command did not produce a valid output. But according to your posted debug log, this command produces an output: your hostname "opti7010"
Also, the "singularity --debug" command shows basically the same as from a machine that has already successfully crunched native ATLAS tasks.

I don't know why it is not working. Just a few guesses (might have nothing to do with the problem at all): maybe some user rights/privilege problems? Did you install singularity with "sudo make install"?

Maybe just try another native task?

Message 37588 - Posted: 10 Dec 2018, 18:32:17 UTC - in response to Message 37579.

I rebooted and tried 2 more tasks but they both failed for the same reason.
I am pretty sure I installed with "sudo make install" but maybe not.
It could be a permissions problem. As far as I can tell it installs only 2 files: singularity (the binary) and singularity.conf. The binary is set for execution by root, group and all. Singularity.conf is readable by root, group and all so user boinc (who owns boinc) should have no problem executing it and reading the config file. Perhaps it's attempting to write a disk file in a directory in which it does not have write permission?

What is the output of the command (remember to probe cvmfs first):
sudo -H -u boinc singularity exec -B /cvmfs /cvmfs/atlas.cern.ch/repo/images/singularity/x86_64-slc6.img hostname

It outputs the hostname. So it's not a permissions problem.

Presumably it does not make sense to run the native ATLAS app if I need to do it on a Windows machine by using Ubuntu in a virtualbox?

Thanks!

This computer has enough resources to try it out:
https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/show_host_detail.php?hostid=10449689

As you are already running ATLAS vbox on it using a 3-core configuration I would suggest to set up a 3-core VM with the same RAM settings you configured for your ATLAS VMs.
Let it run for a while and compare the runtime/CPU time values.

Depends on how many ATLAS tasks one intends to run concurrent and #cpus per task? If the intention is to run only 1 single core task then there seems to be little difference in RAM and HD overhead.

If the intention is to run 5 single core tasks concurrently, for example, then you eliminate the overhead of 4 VMs.

If you're willing to build yourself a custom VM to then run BOINC and hence Atlas-native inside it, I think it would make more sense to build an SL6 VM and then you can just install the dependencies (CVMFS and a couple of Atlas bits) from RPMs, rather than trying to build them yourself (on Ubuntu).

1. This communication is not for this thread. The Admins maybe change it.
2. VBoxManage.exe: error: AMD-V is disabled in the BIOS (or by the host OS) (VERR_SVM_DISABLED)
You need to enable SVM in BIOS from the Ryzen. Only sixtrack don't need it.

Inside of the Ryzen 7 bios is a virtualisation option
This can be enabled only if you upgrade Windows 10 from family to professionnal
As soon as you activated the hyper v manually then you must restart you computer
He is recognizing the virtualization and you must control them in the bios setup
The result by atlas: with or without virtualization option and with or without hyper V is the computer failing in the atlas tasks
The computer that did not fail are intel I7 with graphic cards

I found the Reason why an AMD ryzen 2700 X can not crunch for atlas in his commercial configuration:
an amd ryzen 7 2700x need a minimum of 70 Gbytes of Ram
Then with all ugrades of cern he must also have Windows 10 professionnal and activate hyper V and restart the computer
I had only 16 Gb and he could not run
The use of the computer need minimal 6GB
Commercial seen the ram must be upgradet Inside of an amd ryzen to 128 Gb and then you have the bigest racer you could mean in your life
evrything cames from yetis checklist analysed in detail

Best Regards

If everything worked well, you should now have everything you need to run native ATLAS tasks on Debian 9.

Again, feel free to report mistakes, improvements, ask questions, make any suggestions, etc. It would be much appreciated!

Gyllic

Thanks. I just thought I would mention that the Singularity portion worked for me on Ubuntu 18.04.3, and BOINC 7.16.3 installed from the costamagnagianfranco repository, when nothing else would.
That is, I had CVMFS installed and it worked fine for native Theory, but not at all for native ATLAS.
I did use the most recent version of golang (13.5), and made the substitutions in the appropriate places for version 11.
Also, I needed to install git (sudo apt install git), but that was obvious when it asked for it.

You have saved me with native ATLAS.
