This wouldn't solve what I described

The only way I see is to let me priorize each subproject withcq figure like

1 Atlas
2 CMS
3 ...

So if First Project doesn't have work the next one will be Nr 2 CMS then number 3 and so on

Supporting BOINC, a great concept !

And if I received LHCb work randomly if there were no ATLAS work, my computers would freeze because the combined units require more memory than is available. So having a setting specifying which backup projects you want would work best. Thanks!

... One of the ideas behind the LHC consolidation was that if one app runs out of work then people can run others. There is a setting on the project preferences to have a preferred app but run others if that app has no work.

the problems mentioned by some members following your posting above could easily be avoided if in the Project preferences one could specify which of the other sub-projects should be the "Stand-by" one.
In other words: a stand-by subproject is not selected randomly, but rather determined by the cruncher (like Yeti was saying: 1 ..., 2 ..., 3 ...)

Thanks for the feedback, I think an ordered list of preferred apps is a good idea. I will discuss with the LHC team if this can be implemented.
