For some reason, Atlas is using 10200 MB per instance of Atlas, despite an app_config setting it at 6600 MB for a 4 core job. Any ideas why this might be happening?

<app_config>
<app>
<name>ATLAS</name>
<max_concurrent>8</max_concurrent>
</app>
<app_version>
<app_name>ATLAS</app_name>
<plan_class>vbox64_mt_mcore_atlas</plan_class>
<avg_ncpus>4.0</avg_ncpus>
<cmdline>--memory_size_mb 6600</cmdline>
</app_version>
</app_config>

The needed memory is calculated by the LHC@Home-Server that doesn't know your app_config settings. It uses the Web-Preferences, so you should change your Web-Preferences regarding Max # jobs and Max # CPUs

As far as I know there is a bug in the server-software so these parameters are crossed interpreted, so you will have to play a little bit around

The configuration looks fine.

Did you check if
- the name of your file is "app_config.xml"?
- the file is saved to {BOINC Data directory}\projects\lhcathome.cern.ch_lhcathome?

Did you run "reload config files" from your BOINC menu (or restarted the BOINC client) after the file was saved?

Settings that have been changed apply only to tasks that are started after the change.

Yes, I'm aware of those steps so I'm sure I've done it properly. It's running the jobs on 4C or 2C as specified on the host.

Strangely it was using 4C on the correct hosts. Other hosts I was using 2C. So I guess there is no way to differentiate now for the different hosts of you have to set global preferences.

Virtualbox (5.2.8) installed, CPU does not have hardware virtualization support
Hello everyone.
I am having difficulties geting Virtualbox (5.2.8) to run.
my computer skills are weak. I'm still learing :)
I can't figure this one out :(
any guidance, suggestions, advice, would be greatly appreciated,
BOINC 7.14.2 not installed as service.
Editon --------- Windows 10 Pro for Workstations
Version -------- 1903
installed on --- 2019-08-27
OS Build ------- 18362.295
COMPUTER IS American Megatrends Inc.
BIOS Version: 3016
H11OM-C
in your BOINC top level directory you will find a file called client_state.xml.
Open this file with a simple editor (eg Notepad on Windows) and look for this line:
<p_vm_extensions_disabled>1</p_vm_extensions_disabled>
You need to change the 1 to a 0 (zero)
This line is usually absent from the file unless you have tried to run VBox tasks without having enabled the Virtualisation (VT-X in Windows) beforehand.
So line should look like this after you've changed it:
<p_vm_extensions_disabled>0</p_vm_extensions_disabled>
Save the file.
The file needs to be in plain text so using a fancy editor that leaves formatting characters will mess it up.
Restart BOINC and get more tasks, they should then work.

From your hardcopys I would say you only need to enter your bios and switch VT-X on

This is a great answer
Hyper v is used only for server and not for virtualisation computing and this is the reason why hyper v must be disabled

To activate virtualisation you must go Inside of the setup.

Now i change my system and i get to 6 computers
The latest is an I7 at 5GHz with rtx coprocessor:
Type de CPU
GenuineIntel
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700F CPU @ 3.00GHz [Family 6 Model 158 Stepping 13]
Nombre de processeurs
8
Coprocesseurs
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 (4095MB) driver: 430.39 OpenCL: 1.2
Virtualisation
Virtualbox (5.2.8) installé, le processeur est compatible avec la virtualisation matérielle et est activé

I had to make some change in my computer room and now i restartet to compute for the LHC

Best regards to everybody

memory inside of the computer
It is necessary to have a look Inside of the boinc manager Tools and especially Inside of the computing choice to select the biggest size of memory avaible Inside of the computer to run easy the projects
as sample:
with an I7 7700k i need 15GB RAM
with an amd ryzen 7 2700x the maximal Inside builded memory is 32 GB an i use 99% for cern project if i compute with full power
sometimes the amd ryzen need at full power more as 32 GB and some tasks are made in standby and the computer is not processing with the 16 processor at the same time
You can see this with some CMS tasks that could be delayed
It is usual that atlas tasks need n processors
The disk memory space is the second important look to have to your computer depending on the project choice
it is important to have a big c: disk on your computer with free memory or 15 Gb avaible free disk space after installing the projects Inside of the boinc manager
each project take place. If you want to work for more projects then you need more disk space and you have less avaible free disk space
if your hard disk is too light in free space the best choice is to install a hard disk with over 230Gb on C:
if you have 300Gb you should run easy
I am back since a short time because i was ill and needed time to go better.
It took a long time and i can say that i spend 50% of the time for health since the open days without relation ship with the CERN
It is my advanced age that arrive.
Cern was great and i stayed at IBIS Petit Lancy

I restarted with theory and some cms computing
I have 5 cms long run tasks that could arrive to end Inside one or 2 days
the run seems to be today ok. I hope it will go also until end

You can select Sixtrack ONLY in LHC-Prefs.
But, this tasks coming in in waves. FTM no new tasks.
All other (Atlas,CMS and Theory) need some support from your side.
So, if you want to support it from your part, or leaving it, sorry.

Atlas still at 3.9gb for RAM?

Also, I didn't see numbers for CMS and Theory. I seem to remember seeing those once upon a time.

TIA.

Yes.

Each ATLAS vbox task configures a VM with 3000 + #cores * 900 MB RAM.
Minimum: 3900 MB (1 core)
Maximum: 10200 MB (8 cores)

CMS configures a VM with 2048 MB RAM (1 core).
Theory configures a VM with 630 MB RAM (1 core).

Don't know if I was just looking in the wrong place but changing ProtectSystem=strict to ProtectSystem=full in the client.service file before compiling BOINC from source on Ubuntu was what got VB tasks running for me after many attempts at following instructions/ideas both here and from other sources. This change was made yesterday at git-hub but it is likely to be a while before the next BOINC release contains the change and it will then need to be picked up by the various distros.

Hello all, after struggling with "CPU does not have hardware virtualization support"
I found the newest issue is with Windows 11 setting. Windows Security/Device Security/Core Isolation/Memory integrity =turned on virtualization not detected, needs to be turned off
Yeti you may want to add this to your list
