Hi everyone - does LHC reward more credit for the ATLAS tasks? They take a very long time to complete, compared to six track. |

Seems so on my computer e.g. Sixtrack 22k sec = 234 cred ATLAS 28k sec = 520 cred based on CPU time I think run time isn't used for calculation of credit, only CPU time. |

I have installed VirtualBox 5.2.10 on my Linux laptop and I get a notice from the server that VirtualBox is not installed. It is. Tullio |

I have them also in VirtualBox 5.1.20. Have only Atlas running: Virtualbox 5.2.14 with Boinc 7.10.2 and Virtualbox 5.2.16 with Boinc 7.12.1 Hundreds of vm_image.vdi entries are shown in Manager for Virtual media. Have this entries deleted, but they are growing again! Seems not a problem for running tasks so long. |

It's normal to have these left over files, they don't seem to cause any problems |

I used to get these ghost .vdis all the time but not since Boinc 7.12.x and VBox 5.2.1x. I used to manually delete them until I found that by shutting down Boinc, waiting a couple on mins for any active VMs to save then shutting down VBox, upon restarting Boinc and VBox, all the ghost entries were gone. Perhaps a REPAIR rather than reINSTALL of Boinc and VBox might fix any miscommunication. |

With the Native apps can we purge virtualbox from our computers now??? What's with the credits, they seem so low??? |

With the Native apps can we purge virtualbox from our computers now??? You will have to purge VirtualBox, if you want to avoid vbox ATLAS. |

This may be the old problem of "Virtual Box Not Installed" when the queue is empty, but I'm trying to run the Theory Native application on a Linux virtual machine(on a Windows 10 machine) on which I've installed VirtualBox (I have VirtualBox installed on both Windows 10, for other applications, and on the Linux virtual machine). Running a Ubuntu 18.04 virtual machine. Can anyone confirm that the not installed message is still just from an empty queue, please? Steve |

LHC@home vbox tasks run as 64bit apps. AFAIK nested 64bit vbox is only possible on AMD CPUs. |

AFAIK nested 64bit vbox is only possible on AMD CPUs. Interesting. This is from the VirtualBox 6.0.0 changelog: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Changelog-6.0#v14 "The following major new features were added ... Virtualization core: support for nested hardware-virtualization on AMD CPUs" None of the newer changelogs mention that this feature is now available for Intel CPUs. And this is from the VirtualBox user manual: https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch09.html#nested-virt "Oracle VM VirtualBox supports nested virtualization on host systems that run AMD CPUs. This feature enables the passthrough of hardware virtualization functions to the guest VM. That means that you can install a hypervisor, such as Oracle VM VirtualBox, Oracle VM Server or KVM, on an Oracle VM VirtualBox guest. You can then create and run VMs within the guest VM." |

Ok, BOINC-manager is already installed on one of the machines but it did not automagically install VB, apparently. If I install VB from Oracle's website, will BOINC be able to get it's claws into the sim jobs? |

If I install VB from Oracle's website, will BOINC be able to get it's claws into the sim jobs? Yes. You need to install also the 'VirtualBox Extension Pack'. It can be added through the "Extensions" and green button once you have first started Oracle VB. edit: Oh, you are running Linux. I don't know how it's done there. |

@David You may be aware that your Theory and ATLAS tasks return nothing but errors. The reason is that your project prefs are set to run those apps as native apps which requires a local CVMFS client to be installed and correctly configured. You'll have to decide whether to run - ATLAS/Theory as native only - ATLAS/Theory as vbox only - a mix of native and vbox Native apps have a better performance due to less overhead and need less RAM but should not be paused. In case of ATLAS the latter is a must as ATLAS native can't remember it's state and will always restart from the scratch. Vbox tasks require VirtualBox to be installed. Vbox extensions are not a must but recommended to give you a chance to look into the VM consoles. |

Manually installed vbox, with extensions. No clue what cvfms is or how to install it. |
