Then I boosted the "switch between tasks every..." setting to 24 hours and got a considerably higher success rate
This is a very important point !

...running a Xeon E5 2620v4 I would tend to think I get two green checks, but I don't.
I just checked it with my XEON E5 2620v3 and I get two green checks

Does it make sense to try all that on a box with 8Gig of RAM?

You hit the nail on the head !

I have run Atlas on similar boxes with 8 GB, but finally it didn't make me happy.

One Atlas with 4-Cores should work, but you should limit Atlas to run really only 1 WU at a time via app_config.xml

I have switched this box to run 3 or 4 Theory-Tasks and this works fine. Theory likes machine that restart only seldom.

HM, I had already made a note about this:

[Update 18.09.2018] Nowerdays Atlas runs only MultiCoreWUs, even if you run it with 1-Core only it will need up to 3,9 GB as SingleCore

But i don't understand why my single-core tasks consume more than 2,1 GB of memory RAM, as indicated in Yeti's Checklist (Each SingeCore-Atlas-Task needs 2,1 GB free RAM, MultiCore-WUs need 3,0 GB + 0,9 GB * number of cores (Last Update from 01.08.2018) So 7,5 GB for a 5-Core WU.).

Aahh, time has overtaken this.

In former times there has been a separat app for SIngleCore-WUs, these needed 2,1 GB. But this app has been cancelled.

When you run Atlas with 1-Core, than it is still a MulticoreWU, only reduced to 1-Core. This will leed, as the Fomula calculates, to 3,9 GB for 1-Cor WU

I will try to find a better wording in the Checklist

I had some similar happenings. The only but working solution was to run Atlas-WUs as Single-Core and this worked fine

Are you using VirtualBox or are you running Atlas direct on Linux without VirtualBox ?

I'm running VirtualBox 6.0.2 with BOINC 7.14.2 on Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS.

With Linux I can't help you, my domain are Windows-Machines, aahh you are using VirtualBox 6.0.2. I'm not shure whether this is a good idea.

Can a Linux-User tell us, which VirtualBoxVersion (s)he is runninng Atlas succesfull ?

OK, I tried using #<PIN> as the login, and it now asks for a password. What is the secret password?

You / We don't need to login there (their ?)

You may look at the runtimes/CPU-times and inspect the logs.
This tells a different story.

The runtimes are far too short for ATLAS as well as for Theory.
None of the ATLAS WUs produced a HITS file.
All Theory jobs finished with an error:
Guest Log: [INFO] Job finished in slotx with 1.

Then we are back to an old Theme: Instead of telling "success" the Server should give back a real status. The User doesn't have a chance to recognize that his results are nothing worth

It looks like this computer does nothing useful.
It only wastes resources.
https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/show_host_detail.php?hostid=10563767

Unfortunately the project server doesn't notice it as rouge host.
I wonder if it could be banned manually until the user changes the configuration.

I took a quick look and the host has more than 30 successfull jobs and only 2 or 3 bad, so something seems to be wrong with your link

Do you let 4 or five Atlas running at the same time?
Nope, only 2x4 or 3x4

Boinc 7.12.1 is now the default.
But this doesn't mean that my version is bad. And newer BOINC-Versions have some very bad restrictions (or bugs, don't know)

Seam so, that one Atlas is running sometime in a RAM-Desaster and find no end.
You have more than 170 Tasks finished successful for the moment. Not easy to see what is going wrong.
As these tasks that I have to abort are spread over several of my machines and have started to appear some days ago I don't think it is a problem of my boxes

Nope, 98% of the WUs do fine on my machines, so I don't think it is a problem of the different boxes.

I tend to faulty WUs or missing download servers for the spin-up of each WU

But there isn't described Window 10 version. Unfortunatelly I can't past here how looks like the BOINC file in my Program Files but there isn't this file :(

You will never find it in ProgramFiles

use the path given for Windows 8/8.1

Windows Vista/Windows 7/8/8.1: C:\ProgramData\BOINC\ (*)

(*) This directory is hidden, so put the path to it directly into the path bar in Windows Explorer and press Enter.
