Message 53552 - Posted: 7 May 2026, 19:39:52 UTC - in response to Message 53547.

In reply to Michael E.'s message of 7 May 2026:
If the BOINC agent can detect it, it would be helpful eventually to see something appear once in the Notice tab indicating that the "LHC@home task nnnnnn may take longer than others to complete".

The notice tab is full of spam so nobody reads it.

Message 53553 - Posted: 7 May 2026, 19:40:33 UTC - in response to Message 53548.

In reply to Garrulus glandarius's message of 7 May 2026:
There have been some software improvements and a fresh batch is just about to be finished (well, except for all the tasks that are already sent out to slow PCs). More work is expected so I recommend reading the latest discussions and checking in from time to time.
I have 10 computers connected and they never get work, so the batches must get taken fast.

Work is intermittent at CPDN, at least 3-4 batches a year though. Windows only batches tend to come about once a year, and tend to get snapped up faster. The others are Linux only. Recent batches have been more demanding (multicore & high RAM).

I disagree. Communicating that a task needs to checked would help set expectations. A message in the Event log would also work.

It depends what project s you use I guess. Some of them announce every single goal they've achieved. I've taken to ignoring the notices altogether, I haven't read one for 3 years.

It's like emails from Ebay, I ignore every one because 99.9% of them are "you bought something, you paid for it, it's been shipped, it's getting there, it's nearly there, it's arrived, sendd feedback, please send feedback, last chance to send feedback.

I get so many phonecalls I don't answer a single one directly, the AI on my phone only rings the phone if the person can convince it I want to speak to them.

Yeah thats the problem, some projects do too much automated communication in the notice tab ^^ and you dont need to compute them, its enough you have it attached on your main administration BOINC Managers because as a good stable CPID strategy. Its kinda annouing but i try to life with it cos i visit the projects forums nearly daily xD

...Now sadly our downtime will probably drag on until Thursday, as the copy of the data is slower than expected. Sorry for that.

Yes, the file_deleter component was Not Running so I believe the server was full. It is Running now. https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/server_status.php
