Hi everyone,

After having spent a numerous amount of time to get virtualization, cvmfs and apptainer working I am now stuck with these problems and I have not even a clue on where to start resolving this problem.

Can anyone help with those?

Honestly, I think it is way too complicated to get Atlas WU to work. I am not a developper, but I am reasonably experienced in Linux and took me hours to get this far.

Many thanks

Heinz

focus on Theory vbox and forget CMS and ATLAS native until the CERN staff is back from holidays.
CMS/ATLAS either have issues in their backend queues at CERN or simply don't have work ready to send.
Your ATLAS native logs show issues that should also be solved next year.

Your CMS logs show that virtualization works in principle.
You may have closed ports at your firewall that are required for CVMFS (inside the VMs).
Check if these are open for outgoing traffic and the corresponding response:
TCP ports 80, 8000, 8080

Other hint

Your logs show this:
[pre]2025-12-24 14:27:59 (44086): Setting CPU throttle for VM. (60%)[/pre]
For vbox tasks BOINC should be set to 100% to avoid timing issues.
If you want to limit the #CPUs for BOINC, consider to use '<ncpus>N</ncpus>' in 'cc_config.xml'.

Many thanks for your help.

I was close to giving up, because I thought it was still a problem on my side.

For CMS I have now set the cpu time to 100%.

May I ask how you got the conclusion, that I have closed outgoing TCP ports? My Ubunut ufw firewall does not show any restricted outgoing ports.

Other question: How can I focus on a specific project? I could not find any such possibility in my account.

Many thanks

Many thanks for your help.

1. How did you do this for CMS only?
2. The suggestion is not to run CMS at all since it has backend issues.
For details follow the posts starting here:

Found some hints in your ATLAS logs that may point into that direction.
It's all OK if Theory tasks work fine.
Otherwise consider to check this again.

Other question: How can I focus on a specific project? I could not find any such possibility in my account.

Here:

For now, only enable Theory and disable native.

Sorry, my error, I of course setup the cpu time to 100% for all projects.

Ok, I now restricted the projects. Although, CMS mostly seem to be working ok. 2-3 per day seem to have problems only.

Many thanks

CMS mostly seem to be working ok.

That's wrong.
Your CMS VMs are running empty tasks without any scientific value.
As said, this is because of an error in CERN's backend queue which does not send out any scientific job.
You can't do anything against it as it must be solved by CERN staff after their holidays.

Indicators are:
1. short runtimes
2. CMS Grafana pages:

If you want to deliver work with scientific value, switch to Theory.
