Back at this after years.
So I've got a few Linux machines ready to crunch. Older processors but plenty of ram.
They both respond successfully to cvmfs_config probe. I'm not sure what else to check.
Both are running Ubuntu 24.04. Both have virtual box installed. They simply refuse to download any tasks whatsoever no matter what I try and result in the error stated in the last day and a half. Oh, I also am using Singularity, I think version 3.8.

Any help is appreciated. I'm not sure what I need to look for and in what log file. Still getting used to Linux commands again.
Thanks for any help!

See the app list here:

SixTrack and Theory native had been removed a while ago, hence atm there's only ATLAS native that uses a local CVMFS.

Older processors but plenty of ram.

Not this one (< 4 GB):

The project works fine with at least 16 GB.
Less than 8 GB can be painful (swapping).

First logfile to check would be the BOINC logfile.
In addition you should check your prefs here:

Wow, thank you so much. I unchecked use native if available in preferences and the machines are now receiving work. Can I continue to receive Atlas native tasks even with this option not checked or is it either one or the other?

Should I expect around 2 GB per core (thread), for Theory (and any other) WUs? Still trying to get the hang of this after time away.

Message 51939 - Posted: 7 Jun 2025, 9:17:32 UTC - in response to Message 51938.

Theory VMs lock 630 MB each, ATLAS and CMS several GB.
But you need more than that, e.g. to copy the vdi file and traverse trough it while the task is running.
Your OS also requires RAM.
Hence the 16 GB (8 GB) requirement.

As for the "native" pref:
If you disable it to get CMS/Theory you won't get ATLAS native.
Might be this doesn't work as intended (server side).
