Hello! I have a problem with LHC. I have been logged in for about 4 weeks and not one job has been downloaded and processed. Other projects like World Community Grid, Asteroids@home, Einstein@home and Milkaway@home are working fine. Now I see a message under “Messages”: LHC@home: Notice from server VirtualBox is not installed Sat 01 Feb 2025 14:25:30 CET But have I installed Virtualbox, or is an extension missing? Which one should be installed? I have installed the packages in version 7.1.6. There are the following components: Oracle Virtualbox virtualbox-ext-vnc virtualbox-guest-iso virtualbox-guest-utils virtualbox-host-dkms I have the following in use: EndeavourOS ( Arch ) Boinc 8.0.2 ( x64 ) wxWidgets Version : 3.2.5 Many thanks in advance. Finally the following: Adding an override file didn't seem to work, but after some searching here, editing this file /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/boinc-client.service and changing ProtectSystem=strict to full seems to have fixed the problem, I'll keep an eye on the output. Unfortunately the file boinc-client.service does not exist in my system. Is there somewhere to report this bug? |

If you want to go with virtualbox on arch-linux you have to: - remove the guest- and the dkms modules. Then install: - virtualbox - host-modules for your kernel (looks like you need 6.12) then reboot. Be shure to uncheck "Run native if available" in project prefs! For native you don't need virtualbox. |

"host modules" is the replacement for your dkms as a binary file. Whether the "guest" files interfere you have to check yourself. What I have described is the minimum for lhc@home and a good way to start. |

@Lehmeier, Ralf I'm not aware of a computer running ATLAS/CMS/Theory from a BOINC Flatpak system. They either require VirtualBox or (in case of ATLAS/Theory) require certain local packages/settings that are not available or can't be used by BOINC Flatpak. Try a Non-Flatpak system and check your logs for additional requirements. |

It is a pity that I have to remove files for Virtualbox. Since I will still need it, LHC will probably have to do without me. It's a pity that LHC doesn't seem to be able to run its calculations without causing problems with other applications. Others manage it. Maybe they will get it right in the future. I have switched on “SVM enable” in the bios and so far there has been no message that there are problems with virtualbox. However, LHC still does not want to finish the tasks. After about 10 minutes and 10 % the task is canceled with “Error calculating”. Since joining LHC again, LHC has not yet managed to calculate a task completely. This is very frustrating. Ok, I have now installed cvmfs but there is still this problem. but i had the feeling i missed something and looked in the pamac ( add/remove software ) and saw that the installed version was a flathub. So I installed the other version and got the message that gui_rpc_auth.cfg was missing, I created it as an empty file and got the message: “Invalid client RPC password. Try reinstalling Boinc.” Also the attempt to reinstall Boinc only brought the message “Invalid client RPC password. Try reinstalling Boinc.” again. If I can't get LHC to run under BOiNC Fltahub and I can't get Boinc to run from the official repositories, I will probably have to do without LHC - that would be a shame. What else can I do to get it running? |

After a new installation of boinc start the boinc-client then stop it. This will generate all the missing config files. Then go to your boinc directory and edit the gui_rpc_auth.cfg. A empty file is not an option. Give it a password. |

Ok, which password is required there? Is it the same as the one I use on the LHC homepage? |

Any password will do the job and your account must be a member of the group of boinc. |

Where and how do I have to enter it? In any case, it is not recognized in the file. As for the group membership, I tried “sudo usermod -a -G groupname username” and “exec su username”, but it still doesn't work. Another question : “Is there a way to drag the important files from the flathub into the normal installation, or does that not work?” |

Best way to activate your new membership is log off and log on. Be shure boinc has started systemctl status boinc-client usually you don´t need the password if you are on localhost, but for testing purposes boinc-manager allows to login with localhost and your password with -file -other computer Before manipulating the *.conf files boinc-client should be stopped. |

So LHC is running. However, not in the Flatpak normal installation. In Flatpak Boinc apparently cannot access Virtualbox even if it is installed. |
