Dear all,

I didn't receive any WUs for a long time. I wonder it's because there are no available WUs or broken settings on my PC. :(

My PC runs Windows 10 19044(LTSC) with Virtual 7.1.4 installed.

AMD 5600G+48G RAM

Any hints? ;)

Thanks

At the prefs page (https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/prefs.php?subset=project) disable "Run native if available?" for the venue your computer is attached to.

Update: Yep! I have received tasks.

But I am a little confusing. I assume it will give me native app when available :|

So, if I have a Linux or WSL PC along with a Windows PC. I should put them into two profiles and toggle "native" on Linux?

In this case you MUST attach them to different venues.

Beside that you SHOULD set "<dont_use_vbox>1</dont_use_vbox>" in cc_config.xml of your "Linux" client.
See: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration
The latter setting avoids that the client gets both, vbox/native tasks.

In general, can I understand that pure Windows users should not toggle this until there is a native app on Windows?

All Task running in Linux.
Windows is the Overhead to use Linux inside with Virtualbox or WSL.

Even more strict.
As already explained Windows users MUST NOT toggle it.
If they do they don't get vbox tasks (for apps also distributing a native Linux version).
That's exactly what you already experienced.

Understood. This setting on the website seems a little confusing.

Thank you for your help and explanation. :)

BTW: It seems that posts containing emojis will trigger a database error.

Message 50890 - Posted: 23 Oct 2024, 14:03:22 UTC

This afternoon the project admins added a hint to the prefs option.
Old:
"Run native if available?"
New:
"Run native if available? (Not recommended for Windows)"

Thanks.
