Having recently installed BOINC on my old iMac Desktop (El Capitan 10.11.6), I noticed so far no LHC work packages have been downloaded (Einstein@home works fine). However, there is the following message from the LHC@home server:

VirtualBox is not installed

Is this the reason for no LHC number crunching on my computer? What is VirtualBox and what do I need to amend the situation?

Regards,
Gunnar

The majority of work at LHC project utilizes VirtualBox to run work, you can install VBox from there site https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

The reason to use Virtualisation is to make it easier for the scientists to create work since they use internally at CERN.

If you don't want then you can run the SixTrac work but this is not so frequently distributed, as you have seen.
