What's the reason for it? All other Projects are ok, but Atlas for Windows11pro with this low speed? After disconnect and new connect network (more than three time), the networkspeed is normal: Thousands of kBit/s! Also is often a interrupt during download, so, need a new connection of Boinc-Network of Atlas-Transfer during download. |

I have the same slow download of some tasks on my machine(linux so not OS related likely) and VDSL too. Most downloads are fast but some take 3 hours cause of it. But so far no drop of the connection. The weird thing is that the task download with this low speed and at the same time the next task is downloading at full speed. So it is throttled per Workunit. But i have a day full of workunits all the time so slow downloads are no problem for me. As we are both from Germany, maybe it is some aggressive throttling of the server that serves Germany |

Tier-0 Cern inside. Tier-1 125 institutes around the world. Tier-2 or Tier-3? our windows Networkusing? There is a wrong network Hardware to make this faulty transfer for us. |

maybe it is some aggressive throttling of the server that serves Germany The files in question (ATLAS EVNT files) are distributed via lhcathome-upload.cern.ch which resolves to IPs all located at CERN. There is no throttling. Tier-0 Cern inside. This does not apply to lhcathome-upload.cern.ch. Have VDSL Hybrid since three months Since hybrid solutions (partly) use wireless connections this makes them less stable. The speed promise is an up-to-promise which means the real speed can temporarily be much lower. For years the ISP's boards are full of complaints about hybrid speed dropping close to zero. |

Have VDSL Hybrid since three months Being so variable to let it running only with VDSL!! SO, it is a CERN-Networking problem!!! for Windows!!!! @Toggleton I have the same slow download of some tasks on my machine(linux so not OS related likely) and VDSL too. SO, it is a CERN-Networking problem!!! Most likely not. CERN-Networking problem!!! for Windows!!!! Definitely not. |

PLEASE STOP YOUR ANSWER!! There's no reason to use capital letters which usually mean shouting. I just want to make clear that other facts should be taken into account. Even a speed test does only show average values over a short time frame. It does especially not show why a distinct connection suddenly drops to low speed. Since it's not necessarily on CERN's side repeatedly blaming it without real evidence is not how a fair discussion should look like nor does it help to find a solution. |

@Toggleton have the same speed. Test it with a win11pro PC! |

As we both have Telekom as ISPs. It could be a problem on that side with the ISP routing. I have no hybrid only VDSL 100/40mbit. Not sure how the real cause of it can be found. So many moving parts that could be the cause. Will look into my logs if i find if such slow downloads give any hint of what is causing them. |

linux so not OS related likely) and VDSL too......Thanks for narrowing down the problem, Toggleton. This may help maeax to find a solution for his/your problem(s). Now it's clear that the slowing down is per connection, Telekom and VDSL. So in my opinion: Soll man die Deutsche Telekom an den Rockschößen ziehen. |

Crystal, thank you, testing now one Theory: 02.02.2024 11:21:19 | LHC@home | Temporarily failed download of Theory_2023_12_13.vdi: transient HTTP error 02.02.2024 11:21:19 | LHC@home | Backing off 00:06:01 on download of Theory_2023_12_13.vdi 02.02.2024 11:21:20 | | Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down. Is stalled with 14500 kBit/s, now finished. Hybrid in Germany from Telekom since 2023/10. LTE/5G with VDSL first in the World. We are positive to get a solution, useful in this Year. Had made a few weeks ago a Test with Smartphone (5G) without VDSL on this Threadripper (Hotspot). |

Have VDSL Hybrid since three months I live in western Canada, so a German ISP being responsible is nonsense. I have cable -- coax link to the telephone pole in the back alley, then optical fiber all the way to CERN. I too see these ridiculously low speeds from time to time, and they only happen with ATLAS tasks. The problem most certainly does not lie outside CERN. |

The problem most certainly does not lie outside CERN. Just a statement. Not a valid evidence either to blame CERN. The relevant point is that a speed drop can happen anywhere between the connection endpoints. This may be at CERN but it also may be a local problem. - your computer (network stack) - your router (temporarily out of resources) - your ISP - another ISP somewhere in the middle of the route - (add other reasons) |

For the 1.6 GByte Atlas_vbox_3.01_image.vdi - Downloadtime 1 day and 20 hour with this speed. After four disconnects of the VDSL2 downloadtime 20 minutes. |
