Hello, CMS-ers and others. It's probably been obvious that I've not been active in feeding CMS jobs to our volunteers since the beginning of August. I'm not sure how obvious the reason was, as I was not completely in control of my actions for a time, and indeed had a number of hallucinations/dreams/nightmares that left me with story arcs that are unravelling as my memory recuperates.

Long story short; on 1st August, perhaps around 0500, I tripped in my kitchen, spreadeagled across the floor, and bashed my head against a cabinet. The next day, at 0100, I managed to get to my feet and stagger back to bed. Later, I was found by neighbours and taken to hospital. Diagnosis: subdural haemotoma on the right side of my brain. Treatment, several days later, a craniotomy to remove the blood clot, with a follow-up operation because of continued bleeding. Some weeks later, I looked like this, with about half the staples holding my scalp together already removed:

So, I ended up in hospital for a total of 12 weeks, most of that in a rehab ward. I was discharged on the 18th and have been back at home since. I cannot legally return to work until the University clears my recuperation, but they can't control what I do within my apartment. :-) Expect to see new workflows being submitted in the next weeks (I've already got one on the go) but bear with me if the exercise gets too tiring and I have to take to my bed occasionally.

Bravo Ivan, you’re a hero! I’m so glad to hear you are recovering so well after such a bad accident. Keep up the progress and keep us all posted.

Very good news that you make progress.
Keep that on top of your to-do list.

Welcome back CMS Brother Ivan

You should get better every day and it looks like your hair is even growing back too!

I had close to that same thing way back in 2001 when we just had the original Seti and was how I even started here in 2004 and Einstein a couple months later.
I remember my last wish before my surgery was "please don't shave my head" so they only did where the staples went and my hair has never been short since I was in HS so when the wife had to take pictures of me you couldn't see the shaved side. (that all happened in Sept. 2001 so it was quite a trip indeed)

So just take it easy and be careful when you are walking around so you are always prepared in case you just get a bit dizzy.
We all hope you are around here until you at least catch up to our young brother Ben here

I'm happy that you are recovering, Ivan! And that you did not lost your interest in your child CMS.
Take care of your self and rest when needed, so that you will join the LHC@home's oldies team for much more years.

PS: Next time put in the thread's title: Look out! Shocking image. (ㆆ _ ㆆ)

Hi Ivan, glad to hear you've made it home at last...

I've been trying to arrange another trip into London to visit en route, but not been able to stitch (geddit!) all the various stop-offs needed together :(

Focus on your recovery!

Thanks, Henry. I'm sure one or two other old hands would like to see you if a visit coincided with their not-WFH days. Drop me an e-mail if an opportunity opens up so we can maximise Old Phartes' Reminiscence Hour overlap.
