Hi, For the second time in several weeks I got a whole batch of tasks which have been reported as invalid (calculation error) when started. Anyone else experiencing that? Client: Unbuntu Linux 22.04.1 LTS Anyone else experiencing this? Or anyone knows about the problem? Thanks Heinz |

I had a bunch of those on CMS tasks awhile back. It was an glitch on the site servers, very quickly fixed by site gurus. Just suspend any remaining tasks you have waiting, and await the fix. |

In this case it looks like the error is caused by a local setting. Unfortunately the SixTrack queue is empty atm. You may... - shut down the BOINC client - check the file and directory permissions of the BOINC tree - test whether the BOINC user account can (manually) create a folder directly below /slots/ (e.g. /slots/blibla) - from that folder run (manually) "../../projects/lhcathome.cern.ch_lhcathome/sixtrack_lin64_50205_avx.linux" - does it create a "stderr.txt" beside a couple of other files? Post your findings here. The test folder can then be removed and BOINC can be restarted. If you run other projects beside LHC@home, do their tasks succeed? |

In this case it looks like the error is caused by a local setting. Thanks, my applogies for the late reply. I think everything seems to be alright with the permissions. Creating the directory test: drwxrwx--x 2 boinc boinc 24576 Nov 8 18:50 0 drwxrwx--x 2 boinc boinc 28672 Nov 8 18:50 1 drwxrwx--x 2 boinc boinc 28672 Nov 8 18:50 10 drwxrwx--x 2 boinc boinc 24576 Nov 8 18:50 11 drwxrwx--x 2 boinc boinc 28672 Nov 8 18:50 2 drwxrwx--x 2 boinc boinc 28672 Nov 8 18:50 3 drwxrwx--x 2 boinc boinc 28672 Nov 8 18:50 4 drwxrwx--x 2 boinc boinc 28672 Nov 8 18:50 5 drwxrwx--x 2 boinc boinc 24576 Nov 8 18:50 6 drwxrwx--x 2 boinc boinc 28672 Nov 8 18:50 7 drwxrwx--x 2 boinc boinc 28672 Nov 8 18:50 8 drwxrwx--x 2 boinc boinc 24576 Nov 8 18:50 9 drwxrwxr-x 2 boinc boinc 4096 Nov 8 19:03 test Running command sudo -H -u boinc ../../projects/lhcathome.cern.ch_lhcathome/sixtrack_lin64_50205_avx.linux creates the following output in that test directory: -rw-rw-r-- 1 boinc boinc 0 Nov 8 19:03 boinc_lockfile -rw-rw-r-- 1 boinc boinc 1504 Nov 8 19:03 file_units.log -rw-rw-r-- 1 boinc boinc 0 Nov 8 19:03 fort.91 -rw-rw-r-- 1 boinc boinc 31 Nov 8 19:03 fort.92 -rw-rw-r-- 1 boinc boinc 41 Nov 8 19:03 fort.93 -rw-rw-r-- 1 boinc boinc 113 Nov 8 19:03 sim_meta.dat -rw-rw-r-- 1 boinc boinc 217 Nov 8 19:03 sim_time.dat -rw-rw-r-- 1 boinc boinc 211 Nov 8 19:03 stderr.txt Anything else I can try? Thanks Heinz |

Many of my Sixtrack tasks are failing after a few seconds on a Windows11 PC. Your tasks are not failing. They are just finishing early. This is because the parameter set in the task makes the beam to collide to the wall of the loop. This is normal for many of the tasks (maybe about half of the tasks do this). ![]() |
