Hi, all.
Barring six track, how long can my machine be offline for a task to be failed?
So, if a task is started and I have to go offline midway, by when do I have to get back online for the task to continue? Does this vary by application?

Only ATLAS and CMS need an uninterrupted internet connection.
Not the whole truth: An interuption of about 20 minutes is tolerated.

Sixtrack and Theory can stay offline several days.

It should also be mentioned that

1.
ATLAS native must not be paused/interrupted.
It does not support checkpointing and will restart from scratch at every resume.

2.
Theory native requires special settings to support pausing (but not a BOINC shutdown) which only works for cgroups v1.
It also occasionally sends out tasks that require several GB RAM (too much for this computer).

3.
According to Intel the CPU used in this computer dos not support VT-x which would be a must to run VirtualBox based tasks from LHC@home.

This leaves only SixTrack that can/should be run from here.

Thanks much to you both.

@computezrmle: I had tried a couple of tasks a while back cancelled when I saw the run times - if I recall, they were Atlas. So, it may be possible to run some Virtualbox tasks. Your RAM observation is interesting, as is the start from scratch for Atlas. Would you think it worth it to give CMS a try?

I doubt any of the vbox tasks will really work.
You may get them downloaded but they will fail since hardware virtualization support from the CPU is a must.
CMS is one of them.

Your recent ATLAS tasks were ATLAS native but they were not reported back before the deadline.

Thanks. I’ll stick to six track.
which will not make you very happy, though. Because Six Track tasks are available only once in a while :-(

Yeah, I noticed that too. I’ll just have to make do with other Projects.

Power failures and Internet failures crash my tasks. Now I have opted out of Atlas and CMS. Are there any other tasks sensitive to power failures and Internet failures?

Currently the only subproject from LHC@home that does not require permanent internet access is SixTrack.
It will be superseded by Xtrack some day (no idea when), hence sends out tasks only sporadically.

Do you mind if I crash other tasks? It is a shame crashing them after they have run 22 hours.
