I've come back to LHC after a few years away.
Installed the version of Virtual Box that is packaged with BOINC version 7.16.20 and ran a few Rosetta tasks. They ran OK.
So I decided to head back to LHC knowing it needs VBox to run. Great, a couple of big files get downloaded and the first task ran for about 20 minutes before failing with exit code 194.
Second task does the same.
Looking through the log file I see this line:
Processor supports HW virtualization: no

Hold on, I'm running a Ryzen which supports some form of virtualisation. Reboot and see what the BIOS says...... hardware virtualisation was turned OFF. Turn it ON and see what happens.
The next few tasks run through and have validated.

Memo to self - Make sure hardware virtualisation is turned ON when trying to use VirtualBox.

Note to LHC - if you can show in the logs virtualization is off, don't download tasks that require it. Instead, give notice to the user that it is off. Possibly even direct them to resources on enabling it.

I have been away for a while. The question, what does VB have to do with Windows?

CERN uses VMs based on VirtualBox to encapsulate complex software environments.
That way those environments can be run on Windows/Linux/Apple hosts.

I have VB, do I have to also load it with Linux or something or does it just need the VB itself? I run Climate with Zorin.

This is LHC@Home.
You need a deeper look into climate to find a solution.

When you have VirtualBox installed, you only have to ask work from LHC@home.
To start with, select in your project preferences only Theory and unselect "Run native if available?".
A Virtual Machine (vdi-file) will be downloaded (only once) to your machine.
