This should allow theory to run:
Add systemd.legacy_systemd_cgroup_controller=yes and systemd.unified_cgroup_hierarchy=false to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX in /etc/default/grub
Then run update-grub and restart

Newbie question sorry, will this eventually allow Theory to run on the newer distros out of the box without needing to edit anything in the OS?
If so would it be best for us to wait for roll out and just block Theory for now rather than trying to get the current version to work?

Yes, but suspend/resume will not work.

To make suspend/resume work tweaking the OS will be required since some settings must be done as root.
Expect further instructions when the new native app is ready to be published.

Awesome thanks, ill stick to Atlas for now and wait for the new Theory app.

Installed a new system today (ubuntu 22 lts) and found that some of the theory tasks fail and some don't.
The ones failing have

which is apparently the issue described here in this thread,
The one succeeding however have

I did not changed anything locally so the latter one seems to be distributed server side. However, I do have the beta option activated.
The name of the tasks however does not yield any hint to beta app, the only difference is that the failing ones have Theory Simulation v300.07 and the succeeding ones have Theory Simulation v300.08.

Short question: Are the 08 versions already distributed via regular Theory Tasks and should I keep the application activated in the profile, or are they distributed vie Beta only and should I keep the application deactivated in profile?

Is theory working now? setup a new system today and before I could assign it to a profile it downloaded a theory app and it seems to be working, only got the one though despite 4k+ being avalaible.

If cgroup v2 is not fullfilled, it running with cgroup v1 as before.

Meanwhile your new system got 170 Theory tasks.


Cgroups v2 is active but your tasks run in legacy mode since sudo version is < 1.9.10.
If you find a more recent sudo version provided by your Linux vendor (!) you may try this.
But be aware that sudo is a critical system command that should not be replaced "just for fun".


In addition your tasks are using runc from CVMFS (v1.0.2-dev).
If your Linux vendor provides a newer one install that as it will be better integrated.

Had to reinstall the OS, now the tasks are failing again, the output looks the same as the previous ones that worked though?
