Roughly a year ago Riccardo from the CERN team wrote a comment regarding GPUs: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/forum_thread.php?id=5173&postid=40258 Looks like GPU development is limited to SixTrack since it is much less complex than the scientific apps running at VMs. The latter require a special runtime environment with access to DBs and software repositories typically developed to be used at computing centers. Might be a huge effort to provide all of that for GPUs and ensure the output is the same. At that point reliability and reproducibility count more than speed. |
