Please Help, The vbox only runs for about 10 seconds after it starts the vm, the VM turns on and then shuts off. I thought I saw something with the buss error code pop up but cant get it to repeat the code, I checked every thing in bios under buss operations and enabled the 2/2 options as one was disabled. just bought an hp QV996av its the standard 8300 series bios system with a new windows 10 install, and yes its registered. I have it hooked directly to the modem as well. Please give any suggestions as to why this isn't running LHC programs, as I bought this machine especially for LHC! |

"VBoxManage.exe: error: VT-x is disabled in the BIOS for all CPU modes (VERR_VMX_MSR_ALL_VMX_DISABLED)" That VT-x virtualization option needs to be enabled in BIOS. |

@tt2012tt Your computer list shows 5 entries but only 4 of them recently contacted the project. 2 of the active ones are listed with less than 4 GB RAM: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/show_host_detail.php?hostid=10660820 https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/show_host_detail.php?hostid=10659385 It is not recommended to run ATLAS or CMS on computers with less than 8 GB RAM although the tasks may sometimes succeed. Hence, you may consider to configure an additional venue for those computers where only SixTrack and Theory are checked: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/prefs.php?subset=project In addition you may install the VirtualBox Extension Pack: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads This would allow you to watch more details from inside the VMs. |

it does show the computer on its website as active and ready to run. You definitely will not have much luck running all of these CMS tasks on this host https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/results.php?hostid=10660820 You have less than 3.75 GB Ram and even just running one at a time there is not much of a chance that you can get any Valids from the 24 CMS tasks. With that dual-core you would be able to run X2 IF you added an 8GB memory card and if you search you can find a fairly good deal for one of those. You did get one lucky Valid so you must have been just running that and nothing else. https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/result.php?resultid=280636277 And has been mentioned here (Richie) and on the tasks Stderr you need to get in that pc's Bios and enable the VT-x https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/result.php?resultid=280626958 |

It was that VT-x setting in the bios. I have more ram coming but, my two laptops with the dual core processors, & im trying to only run six track on them but the CMS Simulation 50.00 keeps downloading. why is that. Ive tried changing it on this website but it keeps loading sim 50. and the gpugrid.net website settings for boinc manager, has nothing related to LHC@home. |

... trying to only run six track on them but the CMS Simulation 50.00 keeps downloading. why is that. You may check your preferences (https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/prefs.php?subset=project) and disable "If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications?". If you attach computers that require different settings, e.g. due to different RAM size, you may need to define additional venues on that page and assign the venues at the computer details page. |

thank you, i did that, should i have "Run native if available?" selected? Take a look at the list of available apps: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/apps.php Native apps are only available for Theory and ATLAS and the computer must run Linux. In all other cases "Run native if available?" must be turned OFF. If you leave it ON and ask for Theory/ATLAS you will get a "No tasks available..." message. Beta apps are only available for SixTrack but usually don't have many tasks. See: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/server_status.php Feel free to check/uncheck this option. |
