Message 42710 - Posted: 30 May 2020, 23:21:35 UTC

The last 5 hours I have not been able to send any of the over 100 finished Sixtracks from here ( PDT)
Can't get new tasks either but since I planned ahead I still have 645 running.
Couldn't even send in one Theory to -dev and it can't be because of too many tasks at the same time.
Of course right now we have lots of Sixtracks running and supposed to be many more waiting right now.
I guess I will just watch and see if they finally let me update.

Also unable to update many completed Six Track tasks, glad to know it's not just on my end.

For the hundreds of Windows hosts with tens of thousands ready to send in and to get new work

For Windows 10 X64 all you do is update BOINC.......no magic tricks.
Worked the same with Win 7 X64

https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php
Version 7.16.7

Suspend your work and then X-out your current version of BOINC and update to this version and reboot and all your finished tasks will go to Cern servers and leave your BOINC Manager Tasks finished page and then continue your work and they will return when finished as usual.

What can I do on my Windows Vista 32 bit that cannot be upgraded to 64 bit. It has worked since 2011 OK for LHC@Home?

I have Rosetta working OK, for a month but even if I turn all those Rosetta off I now have a totally completed LHC@Home that has been stuck with "Ready to report" for 3 days.

In the week before that I ran 1 Rosetta and I LHC@Home both working properly.and upgrading properly.

Nils Høimyr referred to a CalNet comment in his post:
https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/forum_thread.php?id=5441&postid=42767

That comment clearly states what to do:
"Legacy devices that have not received updates to support newer roots will also likely to be missing other essential security updates and support for standards required by the modern Internet. We strongly encourage decommissioning these devices if their software cannot be upgraded. Non-upgraded, legacy devices should never be exposed to the Internet and special mitigations should be applied to isolate them from neighbor systems."

Have you tried an Update in the last few hours ? The server side update may have fixed it for you.

There is also a workaround that has worked for some Windows users, that involves editing the ca-bundle.crt file in c:\program files\boinc directory.
Make sure that you look in the correct BOINC directory or folder, there are 2, one in Program Files, the other in Program Data.

It's not recommended to continue using older Microsoft Windows systems online unless you are aware of the security risks. It's strongly recommended to update upgrade to a newer OS version.

If Cern does not want X86 hosts running tasks here it is as easy as not sending out tasks for X86/32bit hosts.

There are 32bit versions of Windows that are still supported by Microsoft

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/13853/windows-lifecycle-fact-sheet

XP, Vista and 7 are now outside normal support, and are not recommended to be connected to the internet, as are all older versions.

ALL tasks finished and can't send them in and many trying to d/l and that is not working either.

It started on friday so I guess it is going to be a 3 day weekend and hosts doing nothing here.

Sorry for this, there is high load on our upload servers. We have added 2 more file servers now, hopefully that should help.
