Hi, I haven't been getting any work from lhc@home for the last nearly week or so, even though the Server Status page has pretty consistently shown 3000+ "Tasks ready to send". I have all apps selected in my preferences. Windows 10, Intel Core i5-3470 with 16GB memory, 4 cores. When I first joined lhc@home a few weeks ago, I periodically got a few tasks and worked them off (though the BOINC-estimated times for the tasks were way off). But now I'm just not getting any tasks. I've even suspended all my other projects before doing an Update (which usually works with other projects), but that didn't get my any tasks either. Is it possible that, though there are plenty of new tasks, that none of them are for Windows/Intel machines? If not, why am I not getting new work? Thanks. Doug |

Welcome doug, only sixtrack is running without Virtualbox, but there is no work for the moment. By the way, if you want more help, your Computer are hidden. You can enable them to show in the preferences of the Project. Edit: Virtualbox need hardware-acceleration on in BIOS VT-x for Intel or SVM for AMD. |

Hi maeax, My apologies. I didn't fully specify my setup. Also, I just set my computer to show on the site. I have the latest BOINC and Virtual Box combo installed (BOINC 7.16.5), as of a week or so ago when that upgrade became available on the BOINC site. I've run another Virtual Box project, cosmology@home, for years. I don't think that is my problem. As of right now, the Server Status page is showing 1311 Theory tasks and 2418 ATLAS tasks as "unsent". I'm still wondering wny I'm not getting any of those. The BOINC Event Log just shows: "No tasks sent Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks Project requested delay of 6 seconds" Thanks. Doug |

Your Computer show only CMS-Tasks with errors. CMS make problems for the moment. Have you enabled Theory or Atlas? For Atlas it is useful to read first Yeti's Checklist in Atlas folder. When Cosmology is running well, then are those LHC-tasks also possible. |

You may check if "Run native if available?" is disabled in your preferences: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/prefs.php?subset=project |

Hi computerzrmle, I do have "Run native if available" checked. Can you explain how that is relevant to me not getting work? Thanks. Doug |

Native is only for a Linux computer running applications directly and not using Virtual Box. |

Maybe a 'tool tip' could be added to the preference "Run native if available?" to explain it's usage. It really is confusing for anyone not well versed in this project. Maybe change to "Run LINUX native if available?" or give it a mouse over explanation, if possible? |

I do have "Run native if available" checked. Sure. Disable it. And please, don't ask: "Why?" |

Done. I'll wait and see if I get any more tasks. Thanks. Doug |

Hi all, I suspended all my other BOINC projects and Updated lhc@home, and immediately got 16 new tasks, 8 ATLAS and 8 Theory. I've got 1 Theory task running now, and so far, so good. I do notice that all of the ATLAS tasks say "Ready to start (4 CPUs)". I assume that means (as I remember it did with cosmology@home) that it will use all 4 cores to run 1 task. I had that issue with cosmology@home - I don't want all the cores being monopolized by 1 Task/project. I was able to fix that for cosmology by creating an app_config.xml and setting "<max_concurrent>" and "<avg_ncpus>". Is it possible to do the same thing for the ATLAS app in lhc@home? If so, what would the exact "<app_name>" be? I also agree with the other posters here who suggested adding additional help/info to the LHC preferences to explain what the "Run native if available" option is and what to set it to for various OSs, especially if it is going to be set "true" by default (which it seems to be - I don't remember setting it). Thanks again to all here for all the help. Doug |

Go to your LCH@home preferences. At the bottom is "Max # CPUs", set that to 1 and your Atlas tasks will use one core after you get new ones. You can also max # of jobs, if necessary. This can be controlled app_config.xml but I had trouble with Atlas, the number of cores and the assigned memory in the past. I think you have to have the cores and memory requirement in the config. There should be posts in the Atlas forum section. I don't know what the current memory requirement formula is. |

Hey guys, is something buggy going on with the project servers or my system? I don't get that much work any more and these messages repeat often. Seems Theory is the only thing working right now. 4/19/2020 12:08:53 PM | LHC@home | No tasks are available for CMS Simulation 4/19/2020 12:08:53 PM | LHC@home | No tasks are available for Theory Simulation 4/19/2020 12:08:53 PM | LHC@home | No tasks are available for ATLAS Simulation But the odd thing is I have a Theory task running. The last theory to download was 18 Apr 2020, 19:08:40 UTC and there was one other before that by about 30 minutes. I have not run ATLAS in over 4 days as it seems there are no tasks for ATLAS. Any threads on this or any ideas or news on this? I am also at the max limit for tasks since R@H is shoving out a ton of COVID stuff and Milkyway is burying my computer in short run tasks. But even so, I would think that BOINC would make room for LHC to run. Any ideas? |

Doug, I use a 4 core 1 task setup with 6 hour runs. I have struggled with ATLAS a lot and also use a script to control ATLAS. Since I configured things both in my account here on LHC and with the script I have no troubles running ATLAS jobs. My only problem is that work seems to have suddenly dried up in the last 4 days for my system. Not sure why. |

Not sure why I am not getting any tasks. I've never received/processed any tasks for this project even though there are thousands of tasks available, but I am getting tasks for others projects all the time. I've checked my preferences and there is nothing obvious that sticks out. Hopefully someone can shed some light. Same problem here since yesterday: 27.11.2020 07:17:44 | LHC@home | Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 27.11.2020 07:17:44 | LHC@home | Requesting new tasks for CPU 27.11.2020 07:17:45 | LHC@home | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks 27.11.2020 07:17:45 | LHC@home | No tasks sent 27.11.2020 07:17:45 | LHC@home | No tasks are available for Theory Simulation although the server status page shows 1.724 Theory tasks available. What's wrong? |

ATM the project has only tasks available that require virtualization. Your computer details page states "Virtualbox (6.1.16) installed, CPU does not have hardware virtualization support". Since it is an AMD CPU SVM must be enabled in your computer's BIOS and since it is running Windows other hypervisors, e.g. Hyper-V, must be at least switched off. See Yeti's checklist for details or use the search function to find one of those hundreds of posts explaining this. |

On my AMD Ryzen 5 1400 CPU AMD-V is enabled in BIOS. Tullio |

Same problem here since yesterday:Erich, I have the same problem on the Ryzen 2600 that I devoted to native Theory, though no problem on the i7-9700 on CMS and native ATLAS. It usually clears itself up eventually, but you never know when that will be. |

...though no problem on the i7-9700 on CMS and native ATLAS.also here, no problem with CMS and ATLAS, only with Theory. Further, the Theory problem exists only on one of my machines, on several others Theory downloads are okay. Strange, strange ... |
