All three machines are sitting here idle. One machine was performing a mixture of six-track and Asomething (I forget) while the other two seem to only get six-track tasks. They have been idle for more than 24 hours now but it seems there are tons of tasks awaiting execution on the servers. What gives? |

SixTrack is out of (fresh) work for a few days. See: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/server_status.php |

SixTrack is out of (fresh) work for a few days. A few? It's out of work 90% of the time. Only one of my computers can do virtualbox, the others are having to resort to doing other projects as they can only do sixtrack :-( Is sixtrack a small project which doesn't actually have much work to do or is there a technical problem? ![]() |

The most Cern-IT people are in Homeoffice. |

The most Cern-IT people are in Homeoffice. Sixtrack was pretty scarce even before the virus. ![]() |

Sixtrack was pretty scarce even before the virus. SixTrack is doing science, e.g. to sort out bad parameter sets that would crash the LHC in future runs. They don't waste volunteer's resources just to keep a few cores busy. |

Sixtrack was pretty scarce even before the virus. Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining. I appreciate some of the science is on our machines and some isn't. I was just wondering what they were up to. ![]() |

Got one sixtrack_lin64_ on a Linux Virtual Machine with SuSE Tumbleweed on a Windows 10 host. Since it is enlisted in Science United it won't appear as my task. Tullio |

Got one sixtrack_lin64_ on a Linux Virtual Machine with SuSE Tumbleweed on a Windows 10 host. Since it is enlisted in Science United it won't appear as my task. So this Science United is like Boinc but without credits or control. Remind me of the point of this.... ![]() |

I left only a Linux Virtual Machine on a Windows 10 host in Science United. Now it is sending me Sixtrack tasks, but I have done more than 40 thousand Milkyway@home tasks and 5 thousand Asteroids@home tasks on the same Windows 10 PC before pulling out. The saddest thing was that when I received a request of friendship I could not answer it. I wonder what is the use of Science United. Tullio |

I wonder what is the use of Science United. None! It has been and remains a dismal failure. Now the redesigned BOINC main page almost forces a new participants to join through Science United. https://boinc.berkeley.edu/ |

Now that SETI@home has been "hibernated" i still visit its message boards because of friends I find there, since 2004.This is the main failure of Science United. Tullio |

Got sixtrack_win32_ and sixtrack_win64_ on a Windows 10 PC. Finished. Empty queue.... |

Finished. Empty queue....The only thing available now seems to be ATLAS. But I think it is mainly a psychological hangup because the Status shows unsent jobs. They should just set that permanently to zero, and then anything we get will be a bonus. |

Finished. Empty queue....The only thing available now seems to be ATLAS. But I think it is mainly a psychological hangup because the Status shows unsent jobs. CMS/Theory/Atlas usually all have plenty work. I noticed CMS temporarily went to zero earlier today, maybe there was an outage or upgrade? What annoys me is Theory always takes priority. Even if you say "Atlas, others only if it's run out", you will just get Theory. You have to untick the others box to get Atlas or CMS. I did once get a strange explanation about Theories being in the server's memory buffer. So the people doing Atlas and CMS must be all denying Theory tasks. ![]() |

David Anderson claims it promotes new projects. That could be true, running Boinc, people won't attach to the new ones so much. Although when you join Boinc normally and look through the list (or you're an existing user and want another project), surely the new ones are listed there?Got one sixtrack_lin64_ on a Linux Virtual Machine with SuSE Tumbleweed on a Windows 10 host. Theory and Atlas in a VM get both tasks. Sometime only Atlas (for example 4 at one time) or so many Theory. https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/results.php?hostid=10632233 Don't know how it is under Windows. Running only Atlas in Windows. |

Theory and Atlas in a VM get both tasks.I use only Windows (7 machines). If I tick Atlas and the "others if none are available", I get Theory again and again and never any Atlas at all. If I want an app other than Theory, I have to untick the others box. ![]() |
