Dear volunteers,

after a long period of development and testing, we are pleased to announce that we have on BOINC a new major release of SixTrack. The development team made an impressive job to re-factorise the code, porting arrays to dynamic memory allocation, splitting the source code (gathered in few, huge source files) into fortran90 modules, making maintenance easier and deleting a lot of duplicated code and massive arrays - without mentioning countless bug fixes, documentation updates, re-written input parsing, improved build system and test suite.

We have also implemented plenty of new features. Most of them are still available only on the batch system as CERN (e.g. linking to Geant4 or Pythia, running coupled to FLUKA or other external codes, support for ROOT and HDF5), but many of them can be already deployed by BOINC jobs, like on-line aperture checking, electron lenses, generalised RF-multipoles, quadrupole fringe fields, and hashing of files for checks. All these new features will allow us to study new machine configurations and refine results, and we count on your help!

Thanks again for your support, and keep up the good work!

Alessio, for the SixTrack Team

Hello Sjmielh,
they should arrive soon, together with some arm exes - first in sixtracktest, then moved to production to sixtrack.
Thanks for asking and for the support,
A.

we have been pushing out work almost continuously since we published the new SixTrack version. I guess that tasks are being quickly taken as we have to fill the availability of all our supporters (thanks!).
Concerning the app architecture, the BOINC server sends out any app architecture, and windows seems to be the most frequent one
Cheers,
A.

There is not even work even for a CPU, much less a GPU.

I have 2 old hosts running Win XP. Both of them are receiving new Sixtract 5.02.05 tasks and both of them crash the new tasks immediately.. Hopefully, you are planning to fix the new app. But, if not, I suggest you fix the download server to block systems that cannot run the new app from getting new tasks.

I would consider to move these XP hosts to another operating system, I'm sure you could safely run a Linux Distro or a more modern OS.

Thank you for the suggestion - but I'm not ready to learn a new OS at this time. So, I have set my Win XP hosts to NNT.

we have pushed out exes on sixtracktest for other platforms for testing - eg freeBSD and aarch64
All other app versions have been declared as obsolete, so only the concerned platforms should get tasks.
Let's see if tests will be successful and they will see production :)
