LHC is my favorite BOINC project, but it only has work for me to do about half the time, maybe a bit less. I'm wondering if there is any sort of RSS/XML feed or twitter stream that notifies of new sixtrack work units? I'd love to be able to pounce right away, as soon as new work becomes available. Meaning, put other projects on hold so my clients work on JUST LHC until it's out of units. |

Simply set the resource share at the project's (web-)preferences page according to your needs. Example: Project A (LHC@home): 1000 Project B (other CPU project): 1 Project C (other CPU project): 1 |

I'm wondering if there is any sort of RSS/XML feed .... that notifies of new sixtrack work units? There is nothing initiated by the project/server, but mostly users will post new sixtrack availability in the SixTrack forum. The problem with setting workload prefs that way, is that it's global among all your machines running BOINC. I wish there were more options in the app itself. That way, different machines performing different primary (non-boinc) tasks, could have their own unique boinc prefs to use their free time. |

ATM your account shows 4 computers attached to LHC@home. BOINC standard (which is used by this project) provides 4 venues that can be configured independent from each other and then assigned to the computers. As it's very unlikely that non standard extensions will be implemented by LHC@home this seems to be the most efficient way to fulfill your requirement: ... put other projects on hold so my clients work on JUST LHC until it's out of units. ... different primary (non-boinc) tasks ... Non-BOINC-tasks? The web-prefs define the weight among BOINC-tasks. Total BOINC usage can be limited at your local client individually for each computer. |

I think what he means is to have each machine work on projects suited to their config when LHC has no tasks, i.e. projects that make heavy use of multi threading on computers so equipped or gpu tasks if a computer has a good gpu . |

Simply set the resource share at the project's (web-)preferences page according to your needs. This just doesn't work much of the time. Some projects will aggressively flood your cache with very short deadline WU's, keep them coming, and Sixtrack will give the message "Not highest priority project" because all the other projects WU are up against their deviously short deadlines. Resource share is about useless management feature and I came up with other methods. |
