Hi

now that I see (with delight) that you produce again Mac OS 6track tasks I have the following issue : I have setup my LHC preference to allow 1 task max / 6 cores max, this was to control (big) issues I have with LHC VB/VM tasks when several tasks would completely saturate my machine.

I would like to keep that limitation with VM apps, but let 6track without limitation, how could I do that ? only through app_config file ? (because there is no "per app" setup on my account parameters)

I don't think something like this would work

<app_config>
<project_max_concurrent>X</project_max_concurrent>
<app>
<name>ATLAS</name>
<max_concurrent>1</max_concurrent>
</app>
<app>
<name>ALICE</name>
<max_concurrent>1</max_concurrent>
</app>
<app>
<name>CMS</name>
<max_concurrent>1</max_concurrent>
</app>
<app>
<name>LHCb</name>
<max_concurrent>1</max_concurrent>
</app>
<app>
<name>theory</name>
<max_concurrent>2</max_concurrent>
</app>
<app>
<name>sixtrack</name>
<max_concurrent>8</max_concurrent>
</app>
<app>
<name>sixtracktest</name>
<max_concurrent>8</max_concurrent>
</app>
</app_config>

because of the <project_max_concurrent>, if I set it to 1 I'll only get one 6track, and if I set it to 8 I may have various VM (different) apps at the same time, ATLAS alone is using a huge amount of RAM that I can't afford even with a 16 GB i7 machine. so I really don't like the idea..

Thanks for your suggestions.

Your requirements can't be fulfilled with a single BOINC client instance.
As you already stated the problem would be that you either can configure it to run a couple of SixTracks or to limit the number of concurrently running VMs.

You may think about to setup an additional BOINC client, with all it's advantages and disadvantages.
The most "dangerous" pitfall would be to convince the project server to generate a second hostid.
Otherwise the server will try to merge both instances and purges running work.

A couple of howtos can be found in web, e.g.

Thanks for the feedback, I see the idea and I love boinc, but not that much ;)

I think I'll try a more simple way then : deactivate VM apps in my account pref for a time + 8 tasks allowed for 6T, and then revert back !

I'll try to do this once our spring AF RAID is passed :)

What about the destinations Home, School and Work with different Projects.
Then you can set it for difficult Computer, but not in One Computer only?

Since I would have to reconnect to my account here in order to change the computer location, it doesn't make much difference with the previous I'm considering now (coming back to change preferences).

I was about to link my own guide. :) The forum transition screwed up the layout of the guide, in particular the code tags.

I haven't had the issue described. Of the projects I've setup on multiple clients on the same PC, GPUgrid just doesn't seem to keep the multiple home/work/school locations saved on the server even if used on separate PCs.
