ATLAS has offered a native Linux version for several months but here is an attempt to collect all the relevant information in an easy to find place.

This thread contains the original announcement, but note that the app is no longer restricted to certain Linux versions, it should run on all versions.

The app requires two pieces of software to be installed: CVMFS and Singularity. See the above link for more details as well as a link to a script which will set everything up for you.

In this post there is a detailed description of how to set up the native app on Ubuntu from packages.

In this post you can find instructions on how to compile all required packages from source on Debian.

In your project preferences you must tick the "Run test applications?" box. If you have been running VirtualBox apps then you may get a mixture of VB and native WU. The only way to ensure you only get native WU is to uninstall VirtualBox, there is no way to configure this in preferences unfortunately.

Please feel free to ask any questions in the ATLAS forum!

If you have BOINC version 7.5 or higher, you can disable virtualbox in cc_config.xml. Located at /var/lib/boinc-client/cc_config.xml on my Ubuntu box, but your location may vary.

<cc_config>
  <log_flags>
    ...
  </log_flags>
  <options>
    <dont_use_vbox>1</dont_use_vbox>
  </options>
</cc_config>

Shut down and restart the BOINC client to effect this change.

This unfortunately can't be made specific to just one project or just one app, in the current BOINC version. Maybe in the future.

It'd be great if 100% of the setup was verified to work and all in one post. Including the singularity and stuff on other sites.

If I click "pause" in my BOINC manager GUI, native tasks do not really pause.
Only a corresponding message is created and the runtime counter stops.
The scientific app itself continues running at full speed.

Suspending and resuming tasks hasn't worked (reliably?) with the native app for quite sometime.

Have 2 hosts running ATLAS native that switch between "finished successfully" and "error, singularity not installed".
Any suggestions?

David wanted that this thread is only for native-Installation news.

Maybe, the Admins can send the other messages to the Atlas-Thread.

Maybe I misunderstood what David meant.
