Finally, one of my machines received a few ATLAS tasks this morning, but no more since. Although there should be more available, according to the Project Status Page.

Can anyone explain me how come that while within the past two days the Project Status Page always shows several hundred ATLAS tasks available, I could download ony two, and no more since. At this point, there are 415 "unsent" tasks, but BOINC tells me "no ATLAS tasks available" ... :-(

I am currently downloading one Atlas task while just typing this, so downloads are not completely blocked.
[edit] My other host has also downloaded several Atlas tasks today.

at the moment there is a cap of maximal 10.000 running atlas tasks (was introduced because of the server issues in the past weeks). since there are a lot of pcs connected to atlas new tasks get distributed very quickly. And the server status page gets updated only every hour or 1.5 hours or so.

i.e. only because the server status page shows unsent tasks, it does not mean that there are actually unsent tasks in the queue.

a look here:
https://lhcathome.cern.ch/ATLAS/atlas_job.php
shows that recently this cap was exceeded; no idea how this was possible.

. yes, this is correct; I noticed that the updates are done in irregular intervals, mostly between approx. 1 1/2 and 2 hours

in principle, you are right.
However, since within the past 2 days the server status page has always shown unsent tasks (between about 150 and several hundred), I would assume that there have in fact always been some available.

maybe they have increased the limit, it looks pretty constant right now (or it is a coincidence)

maybe its because there are so many pcs connected so the propability is pretty low that one of your pcs get the new "free" tasks.

Message 33841 - Posted: 14 Jan 2018, 10:24:10 UTC

Today, I noticed the following:

if, in the WebSettings, I limit the number of tasks to 8, new ATLAS tasks are being downloaded to fill the total of 8 tasks (of course, running ones and ready to start ones together).

As soon as I set the number of tasks to "unlimited", not a single ATLAS task is downloaded, while other tasks like CMS get downloaded.

This is a really strange behaviour which I have not seen any time before. Any explanations?

I have noticed similar behaviour. To keep enough sixtrack tasks in my cache I have to set 'No limit'.

the question seems to be: is this a bug, or is it a setting made in the background by either LHC or BOINC ?

Best would be if you could select yourself how many tasks each subproject is allowed to download.

I don't know if there have been actual changes, but in the past, Atlas has taken "unlimited" Setting to download only one WU per available core.

Supporting BOINC, a great concept !

Some improvements to the storage were made (minor improvements, not the migration to new storage that is planned later this month) so we increased the limit to 12,000.

Isn't that great: The Project Status page shows 2019 "unsent" ATLAS tasks, but BOINC says "no tasks available for ATLAS simulation" :-(((

According to this: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/ATLAS/atlas_job.php

the ATLAS database server is down. Anyone any idea when it will function again?

Thanks a lot, Laurence. From now on, I'll use this link (the other one obviously worked until yesterday).

Any idea why no ATLAS tasks can be downloaded?

This is the jobs page from Atlas, what you mean.
But the atlasathome.cern.ch page is from the old atlas project in the past!
There, you can see how many tasks are running and how many Collisions in work (50 or 200).
