I see server keeps telling "Tasks for AMD/ATI GPU are available, but your preferences are set to not accept them". I've looked at the apps page and can't figure out what those available GPU tasks could be. What's the reality with that thing at the moment? |

When you want to know the list of applications for any project you should only check the applications link at the Project. https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/apps.php GPU tasks are not mentioned there. And I rather not have them here since we have been working on VB tasks since 2011 and Sixtrack since 2004 and I know the average member doesn't want to spend even more money by switching to GPU's here (cards and the electric bill) I have cards for all of mine but only used those at Einstein and used the CPU's here and after a couple years of paying hundreds of dollars with GPU cards along with that insane light bill I switched to just using a GeForce 660Ti over at Einstein and all the CPU's for Cern which has been the best way to do this and I have already spent plenty doing this so I sure don't want to double my light bill again. (they have thought about it here but it really doesn't work with the Cern projects the way it is) BUT if you have cards to use Einstein will take as many as you can give them. Fortran code porting on GPU was discussed 3 years ago and who knows maybe again at the 2019 ACAT International Workshop on Advanced Computing and Analysis Techniques in Physics Research (ACAT 2019) will take place on 11-15 March in the heart of the Alps — in Saas Fee, Switzerland. |

Thanks. I'm familiar with Einstein but came here to look for something refreshing in the meantime (to fiddle with one of my computers and see what it would be to run these applications that require VirtualBox and good amount of memory). CPU-only suits very well for me. I had understood that's how things would be here and it was fine. Then I start the engine and almost the first thing I see is this "GPU tasks available" line on my screen. That is just confusing. I think server shouldn't keep sending that kind of message if the message is not true. Or does LHC server have anything to do with it? Has there been GPU work available on this project somewhere in history? I wonder why that GPU message gets its birth here at all. |

There has never been GPU work. I think the default BOINC config enables GPU work so when they update the server code it comes back, on the boinc.com page they removed it when I asked but now its back again so I imagine that page is automatically generated from reported configs. |

I am running GPUGRID GPU tasks on a GTX 1060 on my new HP PC with Windows 10. There are also Einstein@home and SETI@home GPU tasks. I have a 2008 SUN Linux workstation with an Opteron 1210 CPU and a GTX 750 Ti GPU board. The speedup of GPU tasks, when available, is impressive. I think about 60% of the Top500 supercomputers use GPU boards, mostly by nVidia. Tullio |

There has never been GPU work. But, there's this page: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/gpu_list.php (and an while ago, I am pretty sure there was my particular GPU listed on it, because mine is described with compiler version and so on). Does someone have an explanation ? |

There has never been GPU work. That page is misleading. It should be disabled or its content should be adjusted to something like "sorry, no GPU tasks". https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/apps.php doesn't list a GPU app just CPU apps. |

that page is part of the default BOINC website configuration, for the project team there isn't any benefit to edit the page. |

Here (October 2018) seems that gpu client is on the road (page 9).... |

I have a GTX 750 Ti, a GTX 1050 Ti and a GTX 1060 running BOINC tasks. It seems that SixTrack will be enabled starting from 1080 and up. nVidia does not support GTX boards in scientific computation, they are only for gamers, so nVidia says. Tullio |

I think this is just what they tested. I don't see how they could limit it to certain GPU, other than compile for certain CUDA level or OpenGL level. Since a E5-2630 isn't a fast CPU it might not be worthwhile to use a 750Ti |

My 750 Ti on a Linux box is doing well in SETI, Einstein and GPUGRID GPU tasks. The last ones are very heavy. Tullio |
