anyone any idea whether it would be possible by an app_config.xml to run simultaneously 4 2-core and 1 1-core tasks?
I guess the difficulty would already be choosing the appropriate setting in the download preferences, right?

Not for WUs of the same APP.

This WU is bound to it's APP via <app_name>ATLAS</app_name>.

You may specify a couple of parameters (avg_ncpus, nthreads, RAM-setting) for that APP in your app_config.xml but (as I guess, not tested) if you specify the same parameter more than once, only the last valid value would be set by your client.
