Mar 24 jui 20:13:45 2025 | LHC@home | No tasks are available for CMS Simulation on iMac when apparently there is a (reduced) stock on server status... ? (I tried several times, suspended other projects, changed my project pref not to accept theory, etc) Edit : it still says "no task available"... but it gave me one :) |

First thing I thought tooAaargh! Friday night strikes again?it's Friday again, and no CMS tasks available for download :-( Tja. The job submitter in our WMAgent crashed, and we eventually ran out of jobs. I put out a distress call last night, and someone eventually responded this morning. Jobs are available again. |

Looks like the weekend started early againthat's exactly what I thought :-) it's Thursday, not Friday :-) OK, it looks like it's not just us having problems with JobSubmitter failing. Turns out that it crashes if it fails to fetch information from one of the CERN servers. WMCore are aware of the problem and working on a fix, but they have to work through various dependencies. Hopefully someone will now be keeping a closer eye on it to restart it when necessary. |

here still NOT working :-( - no credentials :-(this problem has come up serveral times in the past; so I guess the team might know how to solve it quickly, without having to investigate for a long while. |

Yes, the problem was to do with a CA server. Fortunately CERN IT was able to fix the matter soon after we raised a ticket. |

So CMS is sending out live tasks now, right? Got a dedicated laptop running it and I wouldn't want to waste the weekend on decoy tasks.

Check your logs, e.g. stderr.txt. You may also want to check the CERN Grafana pages: LHC@home menu -> Jobs -> CMS Jobs -> Running Jobs If you are running CMS tasks but the most recent number there is down to zero you are wasting cycles with empty envelope tasks. You may also use a local Squid (CMS is the app that benefits most from it). Check it's access log to identify the request patterns that indicate a correctly starting CMS job, e.g. lots of HITS to cms-frontier.openhtc.io. |
