Message 35951 - Posted: 18 Jul 2018, 16:38:00 UTC - in response to Message 35929.

Unsent tasks are back.
Does anyone know if they are still failing because of "207 Exit_No_Sub_Tasks"?
I don't want to accept wu's again until they are working again for sure...

Regards, djoser.

You can deselect the CMS project in preferences.

That's exactly what i did and wrote the word "again" in my sentence.
But thanks for trying to be helpful anyway :-) It's appreciated!

Does it make sense to watch this site
https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/cms_job.php
to check if sub tasks are back?

Yes you can check on that page if it's back online, Ivan is quite good so I think we'll probably get a post when back.

they still don't work, but rather produce the
207 (0x000000CF) EXIT_NO_SUB_TASKS
notice after some 15 minutes:

https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/result.php?resultid=200223352

I don't understand why unsent tasks have been made available, while there are not sub-tasks (jobs).

Is there anybody at CERN who can hit the break or explain why it's not nonsense to send out VMs while there is no subtask?

Today, again CMS tasks were available for download, but not jobs behind them - as it was happening during the past weeks.

Is there really no one at CERN or somewhere else who could stop this nonsense?

Hi All,

I talked with CMS team, there is a very small amount of work so they need the BOINC side enabled to test things. As you know BOINC and the science projects are only loosely linked so we see this observed behavior.

As before if it bothers you then disable the project or you can help the team develop the new CMS backend links to BOINC.

New CMS tasks are available today.
Unfortunately either still without subtasks or I don't understand the new logfile messages.
A member of the CERN team may be able to understand them:

I would strongly guess that's exactly what it is :-) After we have had that several times in the past weeks.

The CMS team said they have to totally overall the VM innards, so I assume there would be a whole load of errors, until they get it all worked out.

this morning, I noticed on the Proejct Status Page that CMS tasks were available; so I downloaded two of them, they have been running now for about 40 minutes - so I'll keep my fingers crossed :-)

unfortunately, the task failed after more than 12 hours with the following notice in the stderr:

2018-09-22 20:10:00 (9184): Guest Log: [ERROR] Condor exited after 43956s without running a job.

Again, like many times before, it is the Condor which does not work properly. What a shit :-(

same thing just happened with the second task: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/result.php?resultid=207052287

2018-09-22 21:08:44 (11516): Guest Log: [ERROR] Condor exited after 45161s without running a job

a waste of 25 hours processing time :-(

on another PC, again, same problem:

2018-09-22 22:01:41 (3740): VM Completion Message: Condor exited after 44402s without running a job

stderr in total: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/result.php?resultid=207056703

Are these tasks not checked before they are released to the volunteers?

But that log suggests that it actually did run 8 jobs, one of which used nearly 10hrs of CPU time!
Looks like the Condor client is getting confused somehow.

Are these tasks not checked before they are released to the volunteers?

To be fair, I've not seen any announcement from CMS suggesting the mass of us re-attach...

but for which other reason would they fill the queue with new tasks?

To test stuff that can be tested only when the queue is full.
