Thanks, but I have a Windows 10 Home Edition on a HP PC which is regularly updated by Microsoft and has also GTX 1050 GPU board which works perfectly both in Einstein and SETI GPU tasks. RAM is 24 GB, disk 1 TB plus a 1 TB external disk where I created a backup image. Since I know very little of Windows I keep all default settings, but the GPU driver is constantly updated by Geforce, not by Microsoft. Thanks anyway, but I wonder why Atlas@home tasks through LHC run both on the Windows 10 PC and the Linux SUN box while other LHC programs do not. I have been running Test4Theory tasks since November 2010 on invitation by Ben Segal, since in a message board I had spoken of a Solaris Virtual Machine I had installed on a Linux host.

Well Tullio the main thing is that your computer and its OS should not be the problem here.

I have been running basically the same computer as you have and it has had hundreds of Valid Theory tasks here and vLHC

https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/results.php?hostid=10307281

It also has nothing to do with the Windows Updates.

I also have several other pc's running Win 10 as the OS and getting hundreds of Valid Theory tasks here.

So you may want to try a clean reinstall of the VB and Extension Pack

On the pc similar to yours I use VB Version: 5.1.6

Theory tasks are the easiest ones to run here since they take less Ram than the CMS tasks so I run 4 tasks at the same time on all my quad-cores with less ram than you have.

Your stderr is not starting the Jobs and it should say this
G] HTCondor ping

Here on yours you can see that after the HTCondor Ping it does not go to a Slot and start a job.

Thanks MAGIC, I agree with you that OS is not the problem. BOINC is the latest for Windows and VBox 5.1.14. But why LHC Atlas tasks run while using less memory that direct Atlas tasks, while CMS and Theory tasks fail? This I cannot understand.

Helo Tullio,

what's about a reset of the lhcatHome project and a remove of the project with a new attach?

I have an Atlas task and a LHCb task running on the 64-bit Linux box and I want to see how they end compared to the Windows 10 tasks. If they fail, I might reset.

When you have no Tasks running in Windows 10 Home of LHC, CMS or LHCb

Click in Boinc-Manager - projects - lhcatHome of your Windows 10 home,
there is on the left side a Button for Reset.
After doing this, you can remove this project.
Later you can add this project again.

Atlas tasks from LHC keep running and being completed on the Windows 10 PC and also on the Linux box, although more slowly. All else fails, except SixTrack, which rarely gives work. I would like to know why. When programs were separated they all worked on the same hardware. Now they don't.

Hi , Tullio ,

can you check if the option "NAT" is choosen in VirtualBox at the item "network" for the tasks else than atlas.

It may explain the trouble if the option "host-only" is selected.

Open Virtualbox , choose a VM in the left panel, and look at its features"network".The good parameter is "NAT".
You can modify the virtualbox configuration to select it.

NAT is chosen and Atlas tasks run multicore with no trouble.

Luckily I have received a number of SixTrack tasks on both of my Linux boxes. The 32-bit Linux has received a Theory task but I know it will fail with kernel panic after 10 minutes. Reasons?

Had yesterday also a CMS-task with stack overflow in LHCathome.
Will test it with Virtualbox 5.1.16.

The emperor is naked. I see only SixTrack tasks completed and validated on my 3 PCs, two Linux and one Windows 10.

Hello Tullio,

maybe I´m wrong but according to this page the AMD E-450 is a 64bit CPU.
Therefore I wonder why you get 32bit Theory VMs.

Have you ever tried a 64bit system on it?

A second point is the kernel version.
On opensuse it sometimes helps to run the "default" kernel instead of the "desktop" kernel.

You may be right on the E-450. When it arrived it had a SLES11 32-bit OS, so I always loaded 32-bit OS on it. I might try a 64-bit Linux on it.
The 64-bit kernel is default, not desktop and is constantly updated by SUSE.

Yesterday I downloaded a 64-bit SuSE Linux on the PC with the E-450 by torrent and I noticed there were no uploads, only downloads. Is there something in my modem which blocks uploads?

Be so kind as to post the output of the following commands on your linux box:
ls -hal /usr/bin/slots
as root: nc -z -v -w 5 vocms0159.cern.ch 4080

Under which user account do you run BOINC?

Tullio

Do you mean torrent uploads or BOINC uploads?

SUSE have today a new Vitualbox and a reinstall from Boinc.

After this installation:
Boinc folder is var\lib now. The old folder is \usr\bin.

My laptop DVD writer refuses to exit, so I cannot load a DVD with 64-bit SuSE Leap 42.2. So I used ImageWriter from SuSE and loaded the .iso file to a USB stick. Will try to install a 64-bit OS on the E-450.

I have been running a Theory task on my Windows 10 PC. After 10 hours it is at 57% doing absolutely nothing. CMS tasks fail much earlier, Atlas Tasks complete but are not validated. Only SixTrack tasks run and give me credits.
