Is the project working? I have a couple computers setup for LHC, or I used to, and they are not getting units to crunch. Is there a page that tells us steps to get this project crunching? I saw some posts for vbox, is that needed now? Thanks |

All CERN programs use VirtualBox except SixTrack. Tullio |

I installed VirtualBox and the extension pack and yet Boinc is still telling me that VirtualBox is not installed. I installed VirtualBox and the extension pack and yet Boinc is still telling me that VirtualBox is not installed. Any suggestions on how to confirm VirtualBox is running properly? ... Have you restarted your BOINC client? You may start with "Theory Simulation" only (beside sixtrack) as it needs least resources. If this works you may try CMS. LHCb if you have a little more experience. |

And I folloed these instructions and even that is giving me weird errors: Troubleshooting BOINC complains that VirtualBox is not installed, what to do? BOINC client message: VirtualLHC@home: Notice from server: VirtualBox is not installed - What to do? There is an issue with dependencies between VirtualBox and BOINC on some Linux distributions. If you are running e.g. Ubuntu Linux, have already installed BOINC and VirtualBox, and still get a message from the BOINC client: VirtualLHC@home: Notice from server: VirtualBox is not installed To get the BOINC-VirtualBox combo to work properly on Ubuntu, please proceed as follows: If not already done, install BOINC and VirtualBox from the Ubuntu repositories (with apt-get). Then please execute: sudo service boinc-client stop mkdir -p ${HOME}/boinc boinc -dir ${HOME}/boinc boincmgr With this setup, the BOINC client puts all the temporary files in a directory called boinc under your home directory, and it is easy to see what is going on and avoid permission issues or similar. Looks like I got it working, woot! Not yet. Please check your firewall settings. Theory and CMS need the following open TCP ports: 80 443 3125 3128 4080 9618-9623 9817 9818 and UDP 123 to get the NTP time. |

I enabled those ports on the systems firewall, my networks firewall allows all ports out and its a stateful firewall so as long as the client initiates the connections on those ports it shouldn't have any communication issues. I did notice it is getting the tasks, but they are erroring out. Does this project use GPU's to run the VMs? If so, that might be the issue. I have ATI cards in the system and ATI dropped support for most of their GPU's in Ubuntu 16.04 so I am seeing errors in tasks that are using the GPU's. I have installed the latest amdgpu drivers but I am not sure if they are functioning correctly or not. I might try disabling GPU usage to see; it's unfortunate though as this is the only system I have the supports quad PCIe Video cards hence I slammed all my spare cards into it to have them crunch and I can't revert to 14.04 as this system runs Zoneminder for my security cameras. ![]() |

This project does not use GPUs. |
