In order to avoid any further errors and waste of your valuable
resources I have temporarily stopped WU submission. There are only
a few thousand WUs active and when they are cleared I hope we will have
new Windows executables. Sadly the Windows executables are now giving
wrong results in many cases. I looked at using Homogeneous Redundancy
but I would still get wrong results. I thought of removing the Windows
executables but they are over 80% of our capacity. In this way I hope in
a few days after users and support return from vacation we can safely
introduce new Windows executables after tests using the BOINC test
facility. Sorry about that but I would rather get it fixed properly as we
have lots of new work coming.

Thankyou for your patience and support. Eric.

A humble suggestion from a Linux user: go the Test4Theory@home way by using VirtualBox. I am using both versions of the wrapper, the old one on a PC with BOINC 6.10.58 plus the new version on a PC with BOINC 7.2.41 and a Ubuntu Virtual Machine with BOINC 7.2.39. They all work well.

This might be a good time to clean up the database from old WUs still hanging around although they were completed last year.

Here's a list from one of my hosts: http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/results.php?hostid=9954838

I doubt that I will be doing this project if it goes the VM route.
Too much of a hassle for limited gain for me.
It is the reason I don't run Test4theory, Climate@home and RNAWorld. Maybe in the future I will try it out but not at the moment.

I will just go to another project that runs the way I am running at the moment.

It is a good idea and probably the way to go?, but at this stage not for me.

I tend to agree; I want to be inclusive and run on as many,
even, or should I say especially reliable, old boxes as possible.
My IT support of course would prefer not to support two
different systems, and it would simplify our build to use VMs.
Still what we have we hold. We have accomplished a lot with
lcathomeclassic and I hope to continue.

Nonetheless we will review and I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for the suggestion and feedback. Eric.

My computer can run the VM only in one core, so the VM isn't a good choice for me either. I use one core with T4T and the other core with projects that don't need VMs.

Does it really make sense to expend a lot of effort converting to using Oracle VirtualBox?

From looking at the history of LHC it is pretty clear that the availability of resources at CERN is limited and unless there is some massive, constant load of data to be crunched coming down the pipe it seems to me that those resources would be better spent cleaning up the existing problems rather than jumping to VirtualBox and having to troubleshoot the Pandora's Box of issues that would fall out of that change.

Just my opinion.

I cannot find any problem in running T4T on three systems, two real and one virtual, with different Linux versions and different BOINC releases. I am using both the old wrapper, multithreaading, and the new wrapper. The first gives me double credits for each BOINC unit.

I look forwards to the new exe's & lots of new work! :)

Any idea when the new exe's are likely to be out? (I don't know when your vacation ends).

Well; think we are there (at last).
We can run on XP. Running more tests overnight
and hope to get production restarted tomorrow or
Friday latest. Thanks for your patience. Will
explain later. Eric.

Validated 3 sixtracktest tasks.
For now, linux always end up inconclusive against windows.
Windows validated for XP, 8.1 and 2008.
That's what I saw from my end of things.

Now "validated" doesn't necessarily mean it worked like expected, but I hope it's so.

Greetings!!

About the same here.
32 and 64 bit Linux both finish Test WU in about 1 second (inconclusive)
64 bit Vista runs to completion. (about 1,200 seconds)
32 bit XP, well, still In progress.. (Assume about 3,000 seconds)

I stopped getting tasks on Linux for a while.

Hope results are productive.

I rather get the feeling with V4.5x that only Windows tasks are validating.
