Why do I need to win. No more goodies to eat. Then why am I going to take a flight to CERN, at least 11 hours only to Paris from Sao Paulo, and then maybe another up to 2 hour flight, to find no cake, no cookies, no drinks, probably not even bottled water, and probably not even crumbs, if I know these guys there? But to visit, well that would be worth all the torture in the world just to see the wonderful people working (not eating my prize) and the most advance machine man has made to date. Well worth a prize that is no longer around. Bill in Brazil. William C Wilson São Paulo Brazil |

There are two kinds of music: Kick-Butt or Whiny A remarkable and seemingly original observation: that there is music which lifts the spirits, and music which delves into us and touches our soul. Music that can elevate us to see with wonder the potential of life's horizons from the foothills of the gods, and that which firmly pins us to the earth and our own futile mortality. A yin of brass bands and heavy rock set against a yang of Enya and Morrissey. But is there not a third kind, greater even than the first two? A kind which seems to stretch to eternity, making our very existence seem as a brief spark in a firmament of endless dark and cold? One that separates us from our human existence and makes us focus on the here and now with single-mindedness and a clarity of purpose. A condensate of the very essence of music which can instantly ignite blind passions or plunge us falling into bottomless pits of despair. I speak of lift musac, telephone hold music, and the wallpaper music played in dentist's waiting rooms. |

Ah, that third kind of music was close to making my foot tap, but then you had to go and whine about the elevator music. Bleg! |
