Message 17800 - Posted: 8 Sep 2007, 22:09:42 UTC

I see (by going to http://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/server_status.php),that most of the servers are up...I was hoping someone could explain why I dont seem to be getting work. I would imagine there are no work units available, but Im not sure how to determine this?

The same situation was before too, but WUs coulb be sent normally. I am checking Server Status all the day, but WUs quantity is still 16800, and no one can be received by my clients... :-(

Well, that should put an end to the 'this project rarely has work' thread.
Now, it ALWAYS has work.
;)
I'm not the LHC Alex. Just a number cruncher like everyone else here.

Knowing they're there but not being able to get to them might actually be worse that knowing that there are none available. Maybe it's a Heisenberg thing: you can only know where the work is, but not how to get to it.

Yes, it says that *now*. At the time I posted this message, there were 0 results ready to send. The 16k were added a day later.

I wonder if Alex and Neasan are aware of the disabled scheduler and upload/download server. Maybe it is up to the scientist to upload work to the server but Neasans and Alex job to keep the BOINC stuff going.

It would not appear so, they have not responded to any of the related posts here. Do not know if there is any other way to get in touch with them. Presumably, if the scientists get no results soon they may know something is wrong and get in touch with Alex and Neasan directly (hopefully!).

Didn't Alex just post here in this thread earlier today? I'm sure they're aware of it. Weird that they haven't said anything substantive about it, but I'd bet they're on it.

I missed the earlier post....seems they should say if the work will be unavailable for how long.

That's a different Alex I'm afraid. It's Alex Owen who is the admin here.

also wondering why there are over a million results waiting for deletion...and over 240K workunits awaiting deletion...hmmm...love LHC, really I do...I understand the move and updates...heck, I'm running 18 other projects...between SETI and this one...I like this one better, even with the "lack" of work units.

Hang in there folks...I'm sure more greatness is on it's way...

I'm not the admin. Just a guy with a low numbered user ID.
There's also more than 1 person with 'Alex' as a name on the forums..

Thought it was funny that techically, the servers 'have work'.

Yeah but there is only one Neasan :-)

a) the status disabled means nothing on the upload and download servers.
b) we know there are 16,000 jobs in the queue we are trying to build up a larger supply and are in talks with the scientists to get some more and didn't want the number to appear on the status screen until we got a big one and released them but that script is playing silly buggers.

The jobs will be set free very soon sorry.

I've been away at conferences now for three weeks so have not been able to constantly keep an eye on the board (although it has been pretty dead for most of that time). I will be back and more visible very soon.
