The LHC Schedulers are refusing to let me download new work units.

As you yourself have said - it's a development version.

The Version 5 clients do not work with the public projects as all the public projects (LHC included) are on Version 4 server software. If you want to run any of the BOINC projects you'll need a version 4 client.

This is an incorrect statement.

Einstein@home works with version 5.1.1 BOINC. I have been running it with no problems for two days now, and it has downloaded new units with no problem.

Sorry - this is recent change at E@H I wasn't aware of.

Is this a genuine question?

The BOINC 5 client is a development version only. The LHC@Home project is currently running on a version 4 server in <B>production[/b] mode. One doesn't fiddle with production servers unless it's absolutely nesessary.

If you want to run BOINC 5 try Einstein (currently the only public project accepting V5 clients as far as I'm aware). If you want to run LHC@Home run BOINC 4.xx.

or an older version (4.3x ; 4.25 ...)

Do you want to get banned for 31 years, your account and credits deleted at a Boinc project ? Predictor@home is your best choice.

It's not I who wants to run LHC@Home, it's CERN that wants me to run it. If they don't want me to run it for the time being, that's fine by me. BOINC will retry every few days to check to see if they value my contributions. The great thing about BOINC is that it'll run other projects in the meantime.

The BOINC devs have asked that all projects update their server version sometime in the next 2 to 3 weeks so that they can release version 5 to the masses before the end of September. Until then...it's development..put up with it.

Live long and crunch.

Major software changes are best alpha tested, then beta tested, then released in a controlled fashion.

They'll likely try it out at the alpha sites first.. .

LHC alpha site: http://lhcathome-alpha.cern.ch/

Seti Alpha site http://isaac.ssl.berkeley.edu/alpha/

I'm not the LHC Alex. Just a number cruncher like everyone else here.

In the meantime, just as a side note, BOINC version 5.1.1 is working very well for me, and I am happy with it. After some final polishing by the development team, it should be a nice upgrade for everyone. :)

If you download the cvs-version you can build it with set_version 4.74.0. This way you get the newest software which connects to both version 4 and 5 servers...
