To an outsider, the name LHC@HOME implies that the data produced inside the LHC by actual atomic collisions will be up for analysis on BOINC once it\'s is operational. On that assumption, I was in the planning stages of building a PC for that purpose solely (since I\\\'m on MAC OS and there\\\'s no LHC Mac client)and was exploring the site looking for info on optimal RAM amount when I stumbled on one of the forums to find out that no data from the actual collisions inside the LHC will be available to BOINC ,but to \\\"the GRID\\\" only. That it\\\'s only LHC DESIGN data that goes to BOINC. Hence, the LHC@Home name is clearly misleading and this should be clarified in capital letters on the main LHC@HOME page and the CERN pages too. P.S. Can somebody fix the bug that puts backslashes everywhere ? |

Give a look to the CernVM thread in the Number Crunching Section. I would not be surprised if some data could arrive to us poor fellows, like the crumbles fallen to dogs after the children have eaten in a Gospel parable. Tullio |

If no more LHC work is in the pipeline, why would they keep this website going? . . . if CERN can keep their Mother of All Science Fair Projects running, it will produce mass quantities of raw data to process. I am pretty sure that there will be plenty to go around. LHC: The Essential Guide Part 2 |

Tullio you have a way with words that describes you as a wonderful writer. Writing is a newly discovered passion that I have. I just turned 53 Oct 7th. |

Thanks David. I had some compliments for my writings from a fellow at CPDN and I explained to him that I am an alumnus of Thomas Jefferson School, St.Louis, MO, USA. I had a wonderful teacher, Charles E.Merrill, who wrote good books. His brother James is one of the great poets of the last century, so I had good teachings.Sometimes I write things in English which surprise even me (I am Italian). Tullio |

...I had some compliments for my writings ... I won\'t comment about writing skills, but I do suggest to read the \"apologies\" thread in the LHC cafe. To any outsider, this thread shows clearly the future of public crunching for LCH. |
