1) Message boards : Number crunching : Faulty Computers or Modified BOINC ?? Huge Credits (Message 23810)

Post:
Crunchers crunch for various reasons. Some do it for science, some for the social aspects, some for the credits. All are welcome and all contribute to this community.

The actions of this new breed of cheaters may cause those that are in the "Credits" category of cruncher, to go to a different project and everyone suffers.

Additionally, the "Wingmen" who just received great credit boosts as well and have done nothing wrong, are now subject to scorn and accusations by those who don't understand the way credits are allocated. They don't deserve that either.

I strongly suggest that the management of the project do the following:

1. Delete the account of any cheater.
2. Re-Mark their tasks as errors, causing the WU to be reissued for validation. This will cause the science to completed, and the wingmen to get correct credit for their work.
3. Put the new protections in place on the server to keep our community cheater free.

Neasan,

I am also having trouble staying logged on to my account using Opera 9.21. Also "Jump to first new post in thread automatically" doesn't appear to work any more.

Ben,

Before you send out new work, would it be possible to clean out all of the old orphaned results from the database (Some dating back over a year)??

Thanks,
Glenn
5) Message boards : Number crunching : Suggestion: Clean the Database while we are quiet (Message 13107)

Given that we are totally quiet right now, it might be a great time if the database was purged of all of the orphan results that have been built up because of the deleter problems. I have approx. 64 orphan results going back to last April. I would think that cleaning these out the of the database would speed things up when we get our next burst of jobs. (hopefully real soon ;-))

I also had tons of download errors. It appears that the WUs are getting loaded in the available queue before their files are either generated or uploaded to the file server.
