Can't display WU
(Message 19895)
Posted 11 Aug 2008 by Viking69 Post: Same here. But it was nice to see some kind of work anyway. The field for typing this message ends> and then the text goes behind the background before it gets to the end of the <field and then there is a line return> this is not helpful either. But when I look a the post it looks OK. Now I am in edit m>ode and the text is <running off the end of the page. I was using the<> symbol> s to mark where my text was dissapearing and reapearing. |

(Message 18541)
Posted 3 Nov 2007 by Viking69 Post: I've got 3 windows machines all running 5.10.20 and not a problem yet. The only thing is you have to completely shut your old manager down before installing it no matter what version your upgrading from. I think I'll stick with what I've got. I din't do that on my VISTA PC and it came back all happy. |

Posted 3 Nov 2007 by Viking69 Post: Maybe a little taste of their own medicine will get us, the people who donate the CPU time that makes this project work, the respect we deserve. Respect is earned, and not always deserved. This is not a poke at you, but a comment on this process. You can have the well intentioned desire to improve this project, but ultimately this does fall into the hands of those runing the project. I am sure that they would love to upgrade the server systems to the latest and greatest, but may have other internal politics to deal with that cannot be discussed in this open forum. And to quote a cliche "all good things take time". "Patience is a virtue". |

Server not reporting "No Work from project"
(Message 18405)
Posted 28 Oct 2007 by Viking69 Post:
OK, so I misread the POST header. But still the back off times were not for the reason of reaching the daily quota, I had see that before. But the systems were unattended and I was not controling the times of the WAIT between communication events, it was all on the software and the server. If I go back far enough in the logs I will find an item similar to the one shown above. When I looked at the web site after the last message I saw that there was work, about 90,000 units at that time and rising as I refreshed. |

New Hosts are Multiplying !
(Message 16736)
Posted 25 Apr 2007 by Viking69 Post: I go through computers often in my shop ... burn-in for a while b4 going out to my happy-happy end users. I've noticed that since last week, I had one host that is added as a new host everytime it connects. Now, I have two hosts multiplying like rabbits. I merged over 65 hosts today and was wondering if it's an Easter Bunny thing, or should I NOT connect any new hosts to this project?! BAM was doing this to me last year too. I have since stopped using it. I do it all manually. Not as convienient but I dont have to merge too much anymore. |

Posted 26 Jul 2006 by Viking69 Post: I'm sorry to say, having been one of the earliest beta members that the current parlous state of this project leaves me totally disillusioned. Too bad! I know that it seems that nothing is going on with LHC, but if you look at what they have to do to get their science going you might have more patience. It can take quite a while (months,if not years) before they have an experiment set up so that they can generate information to analyze. had you been to their web site? This is not the only source of news about CERN and the LHC. CERN |
