This is a guess made by BOINC, not a real progress. Many times explained here in the forum. Looking at this number will not help you to solve any problem. mmmh okey sorry didn't know that. Well that doesn't seem really accurate isn't it? Because even with a cpu limitation, on a SSD unless this is ten thousands very small files to load, on a ssd it should more or less instantaneously.. I will try to tweak it so that maybe it can have longer time but I definitely think there is something wrong in the VM and how they are built. Because as I said before it's not the first time we are discussing the same problem on this forum. Like the other guy said, people are trying to help by allocating ressources on their own time and take on their own time to make it work so everything should be optimized or going that way to facilitate that. Not complicated things by doing things as "yeah but to make it work you need to fill in this check list of an hundreds elements long". But that is as a side note and it's to explain or to empower the message of the other guy. And I would like that contributors and dev keep that in mind at all time including in their code, not only in helping. what is the cpu time in the stats task on the website and the other stat? Because they are very close. So unless this is also an estimation, this is also taking place at night while there is only windows services activities, and the other VM are not doing munch either. So on a common sense note, I think we can both agree this is not normal correct?

23) Questions and Answers : Windows : All vBox WU in error (Message 43949) Posted 19 Dec 2020 by vigilian Post: for example one of the VM is staying on cloud-init for what I can see from the screen. the other one succeeded to go throug happarently and is running libvirtd EDIT: and now the one which was stranded on cloud-init stopped, boinc still showing as calculation in action but the VM is stopped according to virtualbox and the other is still running. I've changed now the pref from 2 jobs to 1 the one with cloud-init stranded resulted in error in boinc finally. Cloud-init is only related to network connectivity or something else too?

I've done a reinstallation of virtualbox etc but still error on all CMS tasks. Also, I have only 2 task of CMS running conccurrent I think. But what I can see it's that the tasks are going to 100% ... everytime... So no error during the process for what I can tell. The boinc data are on a SSD also, I moved everything there . So I need to setup lhc to do only one task at a time then ?

Complex setups often introduce sources of failures nobody but you can detect. BTW: I asked Pepo about the internet values because he has problems to connect to some project servers. And there's a reason to ask for all, not just the ping times. I totally understand your need of inquiry but 2 things since I'm working also in development. 1/ devs are suffering of the same sickness than everybody else when you made something that superficially is working, the problem is not the product but the customer. the "it's working for me so it should work for everybody else" doesn't resist to reality. The perfect example of that because it has been recognized publicly on one of their podcast is for https://shadow.tech . Their UX manager have clearly explained why and how it happened. That a lot of a people were complaining, even if it was not the majority, that the devs since they didn't see any problems were disregarding those experiences etc. Where actually, there was clearly problems in the code of the devs because the UX manager with a little of effort were able to make followups and to actually sometimes experience himself the same problems. And so the devs were obliged in some way to recognize that their code was rubbish on some points. 2/ devs doesn't trust enough the customer or the tester whatever the context. And so the common sense of the same person. For the example of the bandwith, I'm more or less confident that someone who actually made all the way through boinc and then through the CERN project is capable of evaluating the bandwith variable don't you think ? Plus it could be something related to the everyday BGP stealing routes that you have the list each and every day of the year on some twitter account. For example, the other day I couldn't reach my duckduckgo server which is I guess the closest from me because of anycast. And I was able to reach duckduckgo through any vpn. Some of them were the same IPs some not (because again of anycast I presume). Not at all my fault or the fault of my private network. Just a problem of a routing problem at a provider level since I was actually getting the good ip but my packets weren't going to the right destination. So all of that to say that, let's not jump to always the conclusion of it's the customer's setup which is the problem... Often it's actually the devs code. And so I really think there should be some follow up to the coding team when there are some problems in the forum to see how we can upgrade the code and see what could be implemented. I'm going to repair VB and change the directory of the boinc data maybe if it's easy to do or I would need more time then. But something contained into a VM shouldn't be impact or shouldn't be impacted by the rest of the system. If there are too much timeout while other VM are actually working fine like in my case, then maybe it should be considered that there is not enough conditions implemented in the code

It's either the disk I/O totally possible that it could be that but as I said, with a 3700X I highly doubt that the throttling from virtualbox (since there wouldn't be nay throttling of the CPU itself in my situation) would be the reason, unless of course CMS is coded in a very specifc way. are those VM sensible to how the logical volume is made? Here in this case it's a fractionned partition between 2 disk? So 2 dynamic discs, same partition I can try a third time to reinstall virtualbox sure. I can maybe move also the boinc directory if you want to put it on a SSD if needed? Here as you can see it is not.

In addition CPU throttle should be set to 100 % to avoid other timeout issues: 2020-12-11 09:09:56 (8048): Setting CPU throttle for VM. (81%) same problem all WU goes into error on host 10670359 but not after 16s. I'm sorry but I really don't think that it's because of cpu throttle. If there was a problem about it, then you should also consider variables like the speed of the disk where the boinc data is stored because that could also introduce A LOT of timeouts etc. It should be a concerns about virtualbox and how they have coded their things. I have always used VM and desktop VM with different CPU parameters like executioncap etc and the guest VM were unresponsives on really rare occasions. So unless your CMS is coded in such a way that it really doesn't support executioncap, I'm really not convinced why it would crashed. So do you see anything on my workunits that would suggest something else? And it's not hyper-V presence since I manage to finally delete everything from that to my knowledge.

That's why I'm a little surprise but I guess the problem has been the change to 1809 to 2004. Of course between my need of docker for development in windows and the ressources I might hand over to the project, well I need to get my priorities straight. Thanks for your help anyway. I might also add that in any case, there is still a bug in boinc about WSL since on all of my host WSL is not recognized by boinc, so it's not like boinc is exempt of bugs.

It should maybe be added to yeti thread because it's unclear at first. WSL is not associated with running a VM normally at least with all the IT people I know. And so it is not usually considered as an hypervisor. So is it a way to make it work with CMS or is it a known bug from virtualbox? Because it was working before so I don't see why it wouldn't now.

Since it is a Ryzen 7 this is either a wrong BIOS setting or you are running other hypervisors. If there were any other hypervisors then I wouldn't be able to launch a 64 bits OS in virtualbox as we speak. Don't you think? At least it's my experience. There would be a beautiful error message tell me that virtualbox can't get access to the ressources. So I'm sorry to ask you again but who is responsible for the problems in boinc? In this specific case. Boinc itself or your server? Do you use Hyper-V or Docker ? They will interfere with VirtualBox and cause problems. You should deactivate, better uninstall them this point seems overthetop to include docker. Docker can run in WSL. And there is no actual reason that it would interfere then with an hypervisor if installed in WSL2 activated. I have it and unless there is some kind of bad code in boinc (which should be resolved immediatley quite frankly), there is no interference with it with any hypervisors I have tried over the years with any guest OS. Check, if you have have enough RAM for Atlas available. Each SingeCore-Atlas-Task needs 2,1 GB free RAM, MultiCore-WUs need 3,0 GB + 0,9 GB * number of cores (Last Update from 01.08.2018) So 7,5 GB for a 5-Core WU. if the RAM is filled could that be a cause for the server to say the vm extensions is not activated? hyper-V was not activated as I've stated before. the cpuinfo leomoon clearly detect the SVM the systinternal coreinfo tool doesn't detect it.
