61) Message boards : Cafe LHC : ARM support (Message 29059)

Post:
I have a bunch of Raspberry Pies doing work for various projects. I'd like to run LHC@home applications on them too, but when I try to attach they complain that LHC@home doesn't support ARM architectures.

Any chance there'll be ARM support in the near future for LHC applications?

Yes, we are going to devote some effort to ARM porting. Some work has been started already by CMS people and for Sixtrack (which is easier!) we will hopefully have something to report soon.

Sorry Marmot, you are right. The migration has broken the Billionaire's Club (which anyway had a bug that occasionally skipped people even before this happened).

We will try to fix it asap!

Scored 100k at this moment and - very strange thing!! - got 50k+ due to database error or thing like this. So I have 154k now and dunno how to get rid of that 50k

Maybe they are older credits that have just been migrated for you: all LHC@home projects are being consolidated at the moment...

Do you know of anyplace I can read about the results? I'm most curious to see how the events turned out.

Thanks.

Here is a link to a paper published last year in Human Computation (2016) 3:1:99-117, containing details of the research and methods developed to analyse the results of our Computing Challenges:

https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Oula_Abu-Amsha2/publication/312962080_CCLTracker_Framework_Monitoring_user_learning_and_activity_in_web_based_citizen_science_projects/links/588edfc392851cef1362d699/CCLTracker-Framework-Monitoring-user-learning-and-activity-in-web-based-citizen-science-projects.pdf

As you can see, a lot of effort is being made to understand how our volunteers behave, where they come from and what are the problems they encounter.

Best wishes,

Ben and Challenge team

Thanks for the question about the CERN Public Computing Challenges (there have been two so far). We don't have plans for the next one at the moment as we lost our star developer Ioannis who built most of the WebAPI software we used for them. By using an all Web interface, instrumented with Google Analytics, we were able to study what motivates people to do volunteer computing - in this case to run physics jobs for CERN. There are important and complicated issues involved, and most of them apply also to the BOINC community.

We are continuing to look at this area in several studies in collaboration with colleagues from the Citizen Cyberlab project at the University of Geneva.

66) Message boards : Theory Application : vLHC app MC PLOTS results on LHC classic server? (Message 28362)
Posted 6 Jan 2017 by Profile Ben Segal
Post:
I have a question: Now that the vLHC project has kind of migrated to the classic LHC@home website: Where do I find the MC PLOTS stats for all the CMS, Theory, etc. tasks of the former vLHC system which I have now computed on the LHC@home system?

Michael.

MCplots stats only credits Theory runs, not any other apps. But for any Theory work it should increment whichever site you run the app from.

OK what is going on here right now??

Blocked by external firewall. Hopefully fixed but will not know until the configuration has been refreshed (up to 4 hours).

Thanks for the alert

Well done Laurence! Condor seems happy again.

Happy holidays to all!

About half way through the task, SixTrack wu's fail because "VM hypervisior failed to enter an online state in a timely manner". This happened with Windows 7 and now with Windows 10. What should I do?

This must be coming from another BOINC project using VirtualBox (Sixtrack doesn't use that). Are you attached to any CERN project like ATLAS@home, vLHC@home or CMS-dev?

New project at CERN if you like to do CERN work.

Please note that this is a very early prototype, currently in its alpha test stage.

We plan to unify the ATLAS site with T4T (and eventually other CERN LHC BOINC projects) when it's passed successfully through alpha and beta testing.

Lots of numbers crunched.

BTW, have we accidentally found the Lost Continent of Atlantis with 362 participants stuck someplace off-shore in the Atlantic Ocean? Or is this a group of people working through a link via the Bermuda Triangle?

Sorry to disappoint you, but we put everyone in the Bermuda Triangle whose IP address we can't geolocate.

With today\\\'s announcement, will LHC@home project disappear? And if so, when? This looks like the beginning of the end.

This LHC@home project (running the original application \"Sixtrack\") will not disappear, but it is not part of LHC@home 2.0 as it does not need Virtual Machine technology.

Do not worry - this was just when we switched our network interface to a faster configuration. You should not have lost any data.

Just my luck I have 2 WUs at 99% and all of a sudden the T4T website goes down.

Cant connect to any link on the site.

I had just made a post there and BAM.....server is down.

Hi Tony (and other interested people),

For an invite, send email to me (b.segal@cern.ch) or to Daniel (teleyinex@gmail.com) and we\'ll give you the invitation code.
We are increasing the number of testers slowly so as to be able to help new people and spot problems as soon as possible.

Ben

So how does one go about getting an invite to join LHC++@Home (aka Test4Theory@Home)? I joined LHC+@Home just before it went off the air, and although I never got VirtualBox to work properly on my computer (a Dell laptop running 32-bit Vista), I\\\'d still like to try to get it running and help the cause if I can.

The LHC+ test project is preparing applications which will run on the same LHC@home platform, side by side with the older Sixtrack application, so do not worry.

Ben

A new LHC project? WHY (to hell)? This means - current LHC@home will die? It is no fun at all - to collect Retired projects!
IMHO. For every new research to start a new BOINC project - this is a wrong way! We have a lot of projects, which are doing different researches (parallel or sequential, no matter). BOINC father (or mother, if You want) SETI@home has Multi-Beam and AstroPulse (and plans to start 3rd research), a veteran project Einstein@home has main Gravitational Wave search and additional Arecibo binary pulsar search... Finally, the best example of multi-research project may be World Community Grid.
I am discouraged...

Hi guys, please note that LHC+@home is not open for official testing yet, not even for alpha tests, so please wait. We will announce when we\'re ready, and then the performance will be more predictable.

Thanks, Ben.

What is LHC+@home? Is it the CERN-VM Ben Segal presented in London? Anyway VirtualBox 3.2.8 is broken on my SuSE Linux 11.1 pae.VBox 3.2.6 used to work with OpenSolaris as a guest.
Tullio

Yes, it is ;)
I didn\\\'t want to spread the URL too much, so I left it for guessing, as the admins will shurely know whast I\\\'m talking about (and the ATAs as well;)

VB3.2.8 works fine on my ubuntu64 10.04, and I\\\'ve got a fresh WU yesterday in that project.
