When you reach your quota for the 24hr period.
Set it to recieve no new tasks.
Then alter the date : d/m/year of pc.
Reboot

When o/s reloads accept new wu's

No way that can work; it depends on the server date, not your computer's.

Good thing time was spent on changing the look and feel of the web site, rather than fixing the servers.

They succeeded at making the upgrade even harder; now they have to merge the new look changes with the thousand changes from the official code. Seriously, that was totally the wrong order.

I would like to see the 4-core max setting removed. Just make is a # per core, period.

Current scheduler code has the CPU limit at 8, so that's yet another problem that is solved by a server upgrade.

(BTW, what time of day does tomorrow start on this project?). Edit - worked it out for myself: 20 minutes ago. Matched UK time tonite, but daylight saving time ends today in the UK - is it the same in Switzerland?

I think daily quota would get reset at midnight UTC, but lemme check the scheduler sourcecode :)

I started getting new work at the first request after 23:00 UTC (== 00:00 BST, London time). I <think> the SETI servers reset around 07:00 UTC, or 00:00 PDT - midnight local time zone. So it looks as if the reset is based on local, not universal, time. I was confused by the .ch domain for servers which I'm told are in London.

Just finished wandering around in the code - took me long to find it. Indeed it uses (server) local time.

In case anybody cares: from line 1359 in handle_request.C is where the reset is done. current_rpc_dayofyear is set using localtime() in line 1341 above. EDIT: note this is the current server code, not necessarily matching what LHC runs.

How does magnetic storing of antimatter works?

If I have understood this right a magnetic field is used to keep the antimatter floating in mid air so to speak and preventing it from hitting the walls in the chamber.

My knowledge of how magnets work is very elementary, just based on how magnets used in ordinary life works.

If the antimatter parts in the chamber acting like magnets they must have a positive and a negative pole so one pole must be attract by the magnetic field in the chamber. If that is correct then why are not the antimatter pulled in contact with the magnet? Are the antimatter a mono pole?

Have you ever seen these levitating globes?

Matt Lebofsky, SETI@home server admin, also does work on the BOINC servers.

In his recent SAH Tech News he stated that he accidentally broke Trac a few days ago.

I saw that, and it was a few days ago. But the source permissions got broken just last night.

Hmmm... This only started as of today... Why would a client bug manifest itself after several months of operation? Do you have a Trac bug number and a way I can look at the bug log?

I don't think it was reported on Trac. Devs probably found it themselves without any user reporting it.

Anyway, the latest version's logs look like this:
19/10/2007 00:45:07|boincsimap|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. Requesting 5556 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks
19/10/2007 00:45:22|boincsimap|Scheduler request succeeded: got 1 new tasks
19/10/2007 00:45:32|boincsimap|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. Requesting 1151 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks
19/10/2007 00:45:42|boincsimap|Scheduler request succeeded: got 1 new tasks
Yep, doesn't show deferral at all. Not a bug, it was removed on purpose. I already gave up on trying to get the change reverted. Complain yourself.

I used to be able to browse the list without logging in, but I can't seem to find how I did that...

And even though I have permission to do *whatever* on the wiki (I helped migrate the old documentation into the wiki, so I even have delete permissions) and *whatever* with the bug tickets, I suddenly lost even read permission for the source code and changesets. So I think somebody recently broke Trac permissions. Wouldn't surprise me if tickets are now blocked for everybody, or if only spammers can access the wiki :P

"Before BOINC 6.0 is released, every BOINC feature should be considered broken in Vista until proven otherwise."

Particularly the screensaver, it just won't work.

BOINC writes its data files to C:\\Program files\\BOINC. Vista doesn't like programs changing stuff in Program files. 6.x will store data files outside the Program files directory.

The quota seems to be increased from 2 to 4 now.

Not exactly. My single core machine is getting "reached daily quota of 4 results", but my 8-core machine is getting "reached daily quota of 16 results". So maybe it is 4/core, with a max of 16?

Indeed seems it increased to 4 per core!

BTW zombie67: quota is multiplied with the CPU count with a limit of 4 CPUs.
