We have been receiving the \\\"Project is temporarily shut down for maintenance\\\" message for the last twelve hours or so. Is it for real or is there a problem with the servers?
4) Message boards : Number crunching : It's raining LHC WU's - I love it ! (Message 18552)

Yes, it's great!! We are processing LHC WUs for the first time in over a year. The system of some WUs for everyone seems to be working to bring 'old' crunchers back (like us!)...:)...Cheers, Rog.

This lottery business is very frustrating....I hope 'Garfield' lives up to its fat cat namesake and provides a sustained workload for all. John's proposal seems very practical and fair but I won't hold my breath...Cheers, Rog.
6) Message boards : Number crunching : Is the user base/project participants growing a bit too large, for our server? (Message 12978)

Thank you for the updates.....it's a good news bad news thing, really. The projects sound great and the best to Chrulle and I hope we will still see you over at MC@H from time to time.....Cheers, Rog.

Actually, it would be really nice if LHC could find some way of sending the particle tracks for crunching to the BOINC clients. Some of us are on always on connections of reasonable bandwidth, and would not mind large downloads.

Yes, that's something I've wondered about too. I read somewhere that they were going to farm out all the 'track' processing out to various universities etc. They must be aware of the cost savings and processing potential of the BOINC programe if they can make WUs for us.....

LOL...did you just make that expression up or is it a comman expression in 'your neck of the woods'? In any case, it's great to have work again. The Admins are trying their best to keep up I'm sure. Thanks, Chrulle, for coming in on your day off to open the flood gates for us hoards.....Cheers, Rog.
PS....I love the 'Volvo' girl above....beautiful eyes!

<blockquote>5th.rider,

It's not recommended to overclock your processor and work on FPU-intensive BOINC projects......'
Thanks DJ for the info re. the difference between integer and FPU processing and the impact of OC. It's great to have clever people like yourself on the message boards to help the rank and file people like myself understand the limitations of their machines. Cheers, Rog.

I would like to thank the Project Admins for the timely update.....I wish other BOINC projects would be as forthcoming! Thanks again.

PP@H also deletes very quickly after a quorum has been reached i.e. no credit for later returns. I have not seen the same with E@H though.....maybe they recognized the problem and adjusted their code to at least wait until all the deadlines were met. It's annoying and is another subtle way of increasing the throughput of the project, I guess. I can see that dial-up hosts would have a problem with this if they have a large cache.....cheers, Rog.

Amen to our Gassy friend.....I'm still using 4.19 and will keep doing so as long as possible. Boinc 4.19 is a perfect example of the KISS principle: it is simple and has low CPU overhead and you know what to expect. I guess I would be a Luddite in an earlier epoch.....Cheers, Rog.

And we are on beautiful Vancouver Island, on Canada's West Coast. Even this small group has a lot of the planet covered.
Hey, Ocean Archer..what part of the Miss. Gulf Coast? I spent some time training with the USAF in that area (Biloxi, Gulf Port, Moss Point etc) in the early 60's. Great beaches! Cheers, Rog.
