Garfield seems to be now available.

I just wonder where is the LHC@home Alpha project. I want to join it.

aAvgApi.exe takes almost all my CPU time. Why? It does that even if AVG 8.0 is not searching virues. Is this normal? I do not want a virus scanner to eat all my CPU cycles.

If people do what you suggest and end up with a non-working system, will you take responsibility for this? Your advice is un-qualified.

LOL. Of course not, because the user itself is responsible to every bit transfer that happens in his/hers computer.

Do not upgrade to 5.10.x if you run NT4.

Then, why do not you make a bug report?

Looking into that crash.

LHC@home Alpha IS a possibility IF we feel we need it just at the moment we don't, there is work being planned which I can see Alpha playing a part in but we'll see.

Thanks for the info, Neasan! :)

I'm wondering if you will bring LHC Alpha back as well, otherwise I'll move this project to the retired ones at BOINCstats.

It's good to clean up old stuff every now and then :)

I am also interested in LHC@home Alpha, but maybe we should not dream about impossible things. LHC@home Alpha will probably be the last thing to ever happen...

This WU crashed, when I tried to maximize the graphics window in Windows XP. It said something like "Cannot create new surface. This program will exit." or something like that. Result.

I think we still need LHC@home Alpha project.
12) Message boards : Cafe LHC : A useful idea? (Message 16944)
Posted 1 Jun 2007 by HTH
Post:
I think that BOINC should be integrated into Windows so that it would run always and in many computers in the world. There are only about one milloin BOINC users. Imagine how many computers and how many Windowses there are. Imagine how many dual-core/quad-core computers sitting idle.

Windows setup could ask e-mail address and use that when attaching to a BOINC project. The user wouldn't have to do anything... Of course, there should be an option to disable the BOINC.

Is this a useful idea?

EDIT: I have a bad feeling that Microsoft wouldn't support this idea...

Is it possible to get LHC@home Alpha back online? At least, I would like to alpha test garfield. My petition.

Thanks!

Please, consider also LHC@home Alpha project. There are some people who would like to alpha test Garfield.

I strongly recommend reviving the LHC@Home Alpha for your new server. There

Or were you thinking that LHC alpha might test run Garfield before it comes onto the main project, here?

Yes. That's the main reason.

There probably will be new applications after the garfield. LHC@home Alpha would be the right project to test them, but they should enable the account creation to allow new alpha testers to come in...

PS - congrats on getting a couple of WU today :)

That's cool. :)

How can the small alpha test group do the alpha testing, if the server is down? At least, the server seems to be down.

Hi, Ledi!
Hi Henry,

When someone starts a petition mostly he/she gives an elaborate reason why he/she wants the item mentioned in the petition.
When reading your petition I would not know why LHC should open LHC Alpha. Is it to help the Alpha-project, is it because you like the science, is it to share your knowledge about Boinc-projects with the Alpha-people or is it just to collect another project to your list of Boinc-projects ?

I want to help the Alpha-project, I like the science, I want to share my knowledge about the other BOINC-projects and...yes...I like to collect another project to my list. :)

I like SETI@home Beta more than the normal SETI@home. See my SETI@home Beta vs. SETI@home credits. I have many more pre-Alpha, Alpha and Beta BOINC-projects on my list, so I do have some experience on Alpha/Beta testing. I have reported some bugs that occured in the Nano-Hive@home application on Acer-laptop. I have also reported bugs that occured in SETI@Home Beta and BOINC Alpha. My BOINC program is currently 5.6.4. That's the Alpha version of BOINC.

I am using Windows XP Professional x64 and Windows Vista Beta 2 / Release Candidate 1. I study physics at the Jyväskylä University and I am going to be a particle physicist. I am a fourth year student, almost a Bachelor of Science.

Is this CV good enough for yet another BOINC-project - LHC@home Alpha?

A couple of comments to explain why LHC alpha was left closed. This posting is not an official one, but is coming from someone who, like you, would like to be in LHC alpha but is locked out.
...

Hi! I appreciate you comments.

PS: hi Henri - I see we both joined LHC on the same day... I remember the excitement when I noticed that the door to LHC was open (the main project had been numbers-limited before that).

Cool. :)
