Yikes....I briefly looked at these files...messy work.

Might there be any other process to integrate these WU's into boinc?

Or should I report these as lost so the project can clean them up from my report?

I understand the removal.

This occured on my amd 4400 system.
My overclock is at 210mhz up from stock speed of 200mhz.
It has been this way since I first built this system.

I dont use anything to admin my computers. Altho I do need to implement something on the remote systems that are across town or out of state.
At home I have 2 KVM switches and 6 systems on the true "farm" in my garage.
Yes...that means I have room for 2 more....shhh...dont tell the wife !!!
This a collection of machines I have built up over the past months and years.
I work the craigslist,eBay, and a local PC co-op recycler and a pair of local PC shops to obtain the odds and ends and parts I need to build some, running boinc for a few months and then selling them to build funds to get faster machines.
I had several Dell 2400's (dual 1ghz P3)...running for last few months but then sold them to local IT company...that funded my dual xeon box.
Mostly its a condensation of power and processors....trying to keep adding processing power without adding more boxes via Dual Core procs or Hyper Threaded procs and also with dual CPU systems meaning 4 threads per box.
So lately I had the great purging of all my P3 machines, except for my Sabre box, that will be forever my 110 pound geek toy!
My personal machine is my AMD 4400 and the wife is on a 3800 for her video work.
So 8 machines at home and the rest are friends and family machines.

Just using windows xp on the regular boxes and 03enterprise on the Sabre 8 xeon server.

I figure I am just to lazy to try something better.
I do wonder if some version of Linux would be a "faster" OS to be running on the Sabre.
I also wonder if it would take more advantage of some of servers 64 bit architecture and increase the BOINC throughput.

Linux vs. 03 enterprise ?

Also a few new additions to the farm.

Dual 2.4 mhz Xeon HT (603) system.

Dual 2.8 mhz Xeon HT (604) system.....water cooled by Koolance !

I had a nasty lockup and reset of my computer.
I still have about 30 wu's in my boinc/projects/lhc folder.
Yet, under the work tab on BOINC it does not show any of these.

How do I re-start or re-initialise the wu's into boinc ?

Well the farm continues to grow and change.
My first "big" system was my quad P3 Xeon 550mhz.
It was great 2 years ago and learned much futzing with it.
Well finally, its time to retire a solid system to make way for new schtuff.
I retired "Quadzimodo" last night, transfered the data, formatted with a fresh OS install, and posted it for $250 on Craigslist.

The replacement...muhahhaahah!
A dual socket 603 system with a single Xeon 2.4mhz Hyper Threaded proc.
I am already source'ing another proc and have already upgraded the power supply to proper 24pin 550 watt Antec.

PS.....and NO....that freaking Quad Itanic still is not running !
The best thing is, it will have twice the data throughput and a third of the power consumption.

I like the idea of the RealVNC or with boinc view.....

But , as we all know, some machines wont post without a mouse or at least a keyboard plugged in.
I know that some BIOS's will have a setting to allow for this, or some systems will have a jumper on the mobo to allow it to boot without mouse or KB .

Plus....i kinda like checking up on the machines and twiddling with them directly.

You know your a geek when you replace your toys with computers and servers and networking schtuff.

I am running 4 machines on a Belkin 4 way KVM.
With the arrival of new machines, I want to try and work a KVM onto a KVM.
So I can still use just a single monitor.
Power bill for my house is about $100 a month.
But that is for a family of 4 and my carpentry work / table saw / planer / sanders / air compressor.
I am running 5 systems in the garage and 2 PC's in the house 24/7 .

A geek dream finally realised.
I have trying to get one these 8 proc Xeon systems for over a year.
But paying over $200 in frieght to have one shipped is not sensible.
I was able to acquire one locally and it looks like another might be available next week.
When it rains it pours.

CPU type GenuineIntel
x86 Family 6 Model 7 Stepping 3 550MHz 2mb L2 cache
Number of CPUs 8
Operating System Microsoft Windows 2003 Enterprise Server Edition
Memory 8191.32 MB
Cache 976.56 KB
Measured floating point speed 497.33 million ops/sec
Measured integer speed 868.71 million ops/sec

I also have that Itanic....now how to get it running.

I came acrossed a quad Itanium server today.

CPU code is SL4VF
I belive this is a 733mhz proc.

Ok...I am well aware of the sinking " Itanic " situation

Just as a speculation....what might its crunching ability be?

I am assuming 03 swerver would work for the OS
.......or do I finally have to learn Linux?

Doing our part, and sacrificing WU completion time for accuracy from our systems is critical.

We wouldnt want to provide erroneus data and have LHC accidently create a black hole.

Sorry for my bad English, I am American.

Contributing to the science of the project and the sense of working on something bigger than yourself in alliance with others, thats what boinc provides.
Spending thousands to buld PC's to dominate the stats isnt the goal of BOINC or of the science projects.
Building a new dual core dual proc for boinc is fun, rescueing an old server from a dumpster and rejuvenating it ...that is a hobby or borderline sickness, I havent figured that out yet.....but its fun. 8]

Feisal! The contribution of your 1.6 is as important as some modern dual core.

Being part of this is whats important.
Whether its a Pentium Pro 100 or a quad dual core opteron......
.........fire up that BOINC and get crackin!!!

For many of us, it has been years of dedication.
When SetiClassic dominant, back when we argued over intel vs. AMD ....100 mhz bus speeds and building farms of overclocked liquid cooled dual socket 370's to dominate the stats.
The endless hours of building PC's and configuring and tweaking to get that utmost WU timing.
Some of us, like myself, embraced BOINC early on.
Boinc is now like a business... a religion or rather....an addiction !
Always trying to sell the theory to some stranger or friend or family member, who will let you install BOINC on their system.
Pleading......even begging with them for that idle cpu time.
Encouraging them to upgrade for "their" benefit !!! 8]

LHC for me is just another chapter in a great journey of science and technology.
I am very honoured to be part of it, the hours of enjoyment puttering with my various systems.
The constant dealing and trading of PC's and servers to acquire something new or old to add to the BOINC farm.

Whatever the "WU".....we will crunch it.

If LHC does come to an end, I am sure there will plenty of other cool projects to contribute to and be part of.
Newer and faster systems with 32 octect 20ghz cored systems....neural implants....biological bubble storage..........etc..etc.
BOINC will cease to exist...it will be some archiac relic of the past....etc...

.....and I will be in a room with Neo and Morpheus...........
.....Red pill or the Blue pill..........?

ps.....there is no spoon

Congrats.

These 4400's are amazing, and now there is a dual core AMD FX60 chip.
The numbers from the new Dual Core Opterons are impressive as well.

The boinc farm has changed yet once again.
I donated the HP dual 500mhz xeon Kayak to a local cafe to host their website and network.
Everyone is really nice and the place is a nice hangout for us " digital hippies ".
The Club sandwichs they make are incredible!!!
I am also upgrading a system from a Athlon 2.0 to a Pentium 3.0 with HT.

keep crushing

Happy new year.

I dream of finally building a 8 proc system.
Be it a older proliant or poweredge or a new dual core setup.

Dunno about calling it a "mini farm" tho.....wouldnt that be more of a 'greenhouse' ?

I just upgraded the xeon Kayak to 500mhz cpu's with 2 meg L2 cache and uppped the memory to 512k of pc100 ecc ram.
go go ebay, that cost me a whopping $33 dollars with shipping for ram and cpu's

time for more champagne !!!

Conratulations, Ive got two Kayaks and they run nicely and stay real quiet unless they overheat when the motherboard runs the fans up to full power.

I was wondering about that. My mobo fans are idle. I was concerned that something was wrong with the fan or connection.....since there is no real documentation available for these I 'ass'umed these fans where thermostaticly controlled.

These Kayaks are older, but the fit and finish of the case is superior.
The interior cable routing and plastic molded fan ducts and cards slots, along with the drive mounts and framewerks.
Very impressive.
Must be why these things weigh in at about 30 pounds each.

I have been eyeing another HP......... the X4000.
It is a dual P4 gighz machine. I think it would be a nice addition to the barnyard.

Yup....that would work.

Problem is once again, I would need to be at the client machine to change the remote host file and restart Boinc.

Then I should have access to boinc from 'my' computer.

*sigh*

Nice setup River. Thats like what I had piled up in my garage with seti@home.
So much of the PC hardware like P3's and early athlon schtuff can be for free or for $20 us for complete running system.
It is amazing how disposable PC's have become.
Our local community college was selling their complete Optiplex systems for $50.
Most of them were all 700-900mhz and a few over 1ghz.
Many of the machines Boincing for me are from friends and family nice enough to run it for me.
My tech friend is upgrading to dual core 3800...that should produce some nice results. This is in a water cooled case.

My 4400 and the Barton 3200's are all in water cooled Koolance cases.
They all run about 80-85 degrees F. in the house.
One of the Bartons is in the garage. Our daily temps have been 30-40 degrees....so that cpu has been at 50-60 degrees!!!

I wish there was some form of "boinc remote access" so I could manage projects and attach machines to projects remotely. Many of these machines are across town or out of state. Calling up Grandpa and trying to walk him through the process is futile, working the email is the limit of his PC prowess.

There is that number again "8" !!
Its all I can do to resist picking up one of those 8 proc xeon servers.
Well....pickup is a relative term, those things weigh about 130 lbs.

You get a cookie for being state of the ark !
