"Please note: this project often has work but then runs out of work and the users moan about it for a while until there is work again and when there is a lot of work the power users moan about the quotas the way the non-power users used to moan about unfair distribution of work back when this project rarely had work"

Exactly!

Unbelievable, unthinkable, yet here they flush :)

I like the 2 per CPU per day rate. It gives all of my systems a chance to help out. At the rate we are eating WUs we will have them all done by Monday or Tuesday at which time we will be at "how come I can't get ANY WU's from the project stage." The 2 per cpu per day gives us that have more then one system a little credit for haveing more then one system, but allows more people access to the WUs. I think what might happen in the future is 2 WU per user however ]:8(

I agree on that, it is nice to have some work for four consecutive days or so :)

Actually, I'm a little exited about the LHC switch-on this November ;)

Same here
Dose this mean that we will have a steady stream of work starting in November?

I don't think, they will switch it on this November. You better seek through this forum thoroughly, to find answers :)

Well, I'm not sure I totally agree. If there's actually a quota per CPU (and I'm not sure offhand if one is in force or not), then yes, the farms would still get the lion's share of the work. BUT, if the quota were low enough, then that would prevent the farms from running down ALL the WUs in a larger batch before x number of other users could get a share of the work. If there's no quota, then yes, the size of the batch is pretty much irrelevant, to some extent.

And if there ISN'T a quota, I guess my question would be, why not?

Yes. And the quota for the first batch could be set to say for example 5 WUs, yes five WUs per CPU for a start. Then everyone could grasp some WUs to have pleasure of :) Then of course upon completion of them, another batch would be sent. So that even speed-of-light machines probably would not know any difference.

Despite Opera is the best in sticking to the standards, extent of it's global use is pitiable. Otherwise, far less work could have been done at making websites, IMHO. /Opera lover/

edit: say WOW: a new look is here ;)

Oink! Oink!

Oink, an onomatopoeic word for the sound of a pig (Wiki)
An useful and a very nice new word to me. Surely, Dagorath is a dearest specimen of our niffty pigsty. Oink!

This thread is SpamFest No. 2, I would say. One is not online for two days and... People go out, smell at some flowers instead. After such a long time, maybe there is a light at the end of the Queen Mary tunnel from la Suisse to the UK. Of course, that fact will only slightly increase the probability, that LHC@home will normalize soon. Faire clatfart from me :D.

15) Message boards : Number crunching : What do we crunch for?
Message 16716

A small attempt to fill this desperate vacuum:

What do we crunch for?
Nobody knows anymore.
Many years in the past,
we knew how to crunch fast.

But now we all feel forgotten,
Knowing not whether it's for ever,
Our computers and minds rotten.
We are awaiting some hero clever,
Who will solve our trouble,
Before it gets double.
Helas, it's tough to meet them often.

Maybe somebody soon will try.
Hope should be the last to die!

Thanks for your step by step recipe, Ariel. I should try it.

New vocabulary: buttocks, booger, barf and others. From previous lessons I know the nice word troll, but quite ambiguous.

It depends on point of view. This post may be considered as spam (I am not reffering to the email spam, personally I use this word for example if lots of posts are accumulating in short time) or as a contribution to the philosophic disscussion.
Anyway I am not a native speaker and I find reading and ocassionaly answering in this forum useful for improving my language skills, so please keep this "WHATEVER :-) Fest 2007".
What about that fried rice receipt?

Well, well, shouldn't we rename our beloved thread to "SPAM Fest 2007"? :-). Because the more philosophers the more "spam".

25 factorial - that's an awful lotta work. Be careful not to miss the deadline... ;-)

Well, well that is serious, but I am personally more interested in 0.0x factorial, never seen the result before. :-D

Quite a normal situation, I got about 25! WUs worth 0.0x! credit each.
