I am aware they return nothing bu errors. Have asked what the problem is but no one replied.

Manually installed vbox, with extensions.

No clue what cvfms is or how to install it.

Ok, BOINC-manager is already installed on one of the machines but it did not automagically install VB, apparently. If I install VB from Oracle's website, will BOINC be able to get it's claws into the sim jobs?
24) Message boards : Sixtrack Application : where are the tasks? (Message 42054)
Posted 6 Apr 2020 by David E. Merchant
Post:
All three machines are sitting here idle. One machine was performing a mixture of six-track and Asomething (I forget) while the other two seem to only get six-track tasks. They have been idle for more than 24 hours now but it seems there are tons of tasks awaiting execution on the servers.

What gives?

That seems like an awful LOT of trouble just to give away free cpu cycles and electricity.

Is there I can make just ONE computer visible?
(the one with the same errors as when the servers were acting up?)

What difference do my computers make? I don't get the connection, since ALL the executables come from the BOINC system. Something in settings could make errors in computation occur???

Well, 64 bit floats still give you rounding errors but they tend to be way out there past the decimal points. :)
31) Questions and Answers : Unix/Linux : Verify GPU is being utilized, how to? (Message 41945)

Dang, that sure seems shortsided. For all the math-heavy aspects of the LHC project, it at least bears looking into. Pretty easy to move a virtual environment to a container design. However, IF their algorithm(s) are not good candidates for the array processing that GPU's are so outstandingly good at, then my point is moot. However, I just betcha it is.

Just think how much faster (sometimes better than 1000x) the sims and analyses could progress if the GPU's were utilized.

Is LHC code able to utilize the GPU(s?) How can I tell if they are being utilized now or not? GPUtrip (or something like that) seemed to be working just fine.

(This post created on the computer with the strongest GPU I have at the moment.)

Minor bug report: when I click on the Nano BOINC notices box, I get a popup window but it's never populated with anything. Just blank.

Just FYI: I have the arm version working on the nVidia Jetson Nano, and made no changes to anything except local settings. However, I can't advise how long the tasks take to run because I can't figure out how to get the "advanced" menu/screen on the Nano. Btw, it is an ARM machine with hardware floats, takes only 15 watts to run, and costs $100 for the "development" versions (cheapest.) IIRC, it has 4 processors along with some "cuda cores," so GPU assisted LHC projects are an excellent candidate for it. HINT HINT

Advise: install an external SSD or other USB 3 hard drive ($30 for 128gig now), "chroot" so you boot from the SD card but /root runs only on the hard drive, and finally, set at least 8 Gb or so for swap space. That will prevent the dreaded "out of memory" errors we see on SO many ARM tasks.

Extra note: It sits idle about half the time, so I assume ARM jobs are not pushed out 100% of the time. Yes, I have the test flag set.

Oh, it's a bit faster then the RPi3; others say it's faster than the -4 as well but I personally have not tested that.

If the LHC computation lends itself to it, I would also love to have the GPU's contribute to the work.

Building a nice new computer to help with LHC. What do I need to do to be assured it will be logged in my current 'account' totals? I have 3 already but I can't tell if they are all merged or what. This new computer should outshine them all.

separate question:
Would be nice if I could also use some old IRIX SGI machines to help LHC but since y'all don't allow source code out, then I don't see how they can be of any help. Are y'all really THAT paranoid?
