It's CMS that's not working for me. So far, everything else seems fine. Perhaps the short break I took from LHC saved our relationship.

It broke LHC for me again. On a clean install, on a brand new computer. I am so tired of this happening. Not blaming you guys; there's clearly important info that's not being passed on to project managers somewhere.
3) Message boards : CMS Application : CMS Tasks Failing (Message 43354)

Post:
I tried switching off CMS tasks in my Preferences...

It doesn't work.

In desperation I've stopped all work from the project. Thankfully, LHC *does* respect that (there's a number that don't).

However, if it's any help, I can conform that CMS is broken even with a clean install on a brand new computer.

I'm getting WUs on the PC (Win10 64 bit) no problem, but nothing at all on the Android tablet.

Are there any tasks going out for this platform?

Hmmmm.... I dunno. The real clincher for me would be if, at about the same time the LHC broke down, someone had heard a sound reminiscent of a Tardis taking off.

I just got a lot of download errors. :(

Edit: (ah I see the upload/download server is disabled for debugging/maintenance. This explains that, and possibly vice versa)

There's another theory the LHC will be able to test, according to The Register.

Don't ask me for any further comment, I'll just slip quietly out this side door and let the mathematicians and physicists fight it out.

Server-hammerers please note: it won't do you any good as there is also a minimum time between download requests.

I don't know whose idea that was but it was a damn good one.

Girls, girls! Please!

Has everyone quite finished telling the guys actually planning and running this project how to do their jobs?

Let it ride, will you?

Sorry, I haven't heard anything about that, I hope I didn't offend anybody.

Fear not. To compensate for their climate, the British have a very dry sense of humour.

I have one more request which probably many share before "the flood"

Possibly an unfortunate choice of vocabulary, given the current meteorological conditions in the UK at the moment...

I still find this to be the project that best proves the BOINC system is a success. There is no way a stand alone project could survive with with the intermittent supply of work that this project has had since its launch. With BOINC it is no big deal it just sits idle on hosts until work is available then it goes into action.

Hear, hear!

What about people who have attached, zero credit, zero rac for the simple fact they couldn`t get any work.

They wait, just like the rest of us?
It shouldn't cause any problems when the project does finally get work. Even if the host were deleted, it should be able to reattach itself using the info in the file on the host itself ('s always worked for me).

I had a closer look at the WUs in question in my account. It may all just be an arithmetical rounding error. Here's an example:

Claimed credit: 0.00246718596683908
Credit granted : 0

And since BOINC doesn't show anything smaller than 0.01 of a credit, the results are erroneously shown as pending.

I'm not going to fuss over a WU so small the computer barely saw it go past.
:D

My new results seem to be validating. The old ones that aren't validating probably only amount to a couple of milli-credits each, so I'll not loose any sleep over them for that reason. I still don't understand why they haven't gone through though.

Same here. Some WUs from February have 5 returned results, but are still pending, while later WUs (today's for example) have validated fine.

Better that than the other way round, I suppose.

Here's an idea:

Let's put different types of tea in Stanford University's mostly defunct linear accelerator (SLAC) in order to determine the undeniably mystic and heretofore unknown physics of tea!

Good source of Brownian motion if you're building a Total Perspective Vortex, of course.

I prefer Arabic tea, it's the best in the world :-D
- With lots of sugar and milk, of course!

Sugar, yes, but milk???? Don't you mean fresh mint?

Arab tea is made with green tea, mint and sugar (hides the bitterness from the mint) and is drunk in tiny glasses, preferably accompanied by pastries involving dates, almonds and honey.

Slimming it ain't. Marvellous stuff.

Well, that's what happens on all projects. But it's not "wasting", since you don't know which of the results will come first (and thus which are being wasted). Also, if only one is sent, they won't know if it's correct. If two are sent, and aren't equal results, one of them is bad (but which?). If three are sent, two match and one doesn't, there is the answer.

You wouldn't have read Minority Report, by any chance? :D
