Hey,

Thx for the help. But I am behing a pool and I cant "login" and manipulate my preferences. I need tof orce it somehow locally, as I do with % of CPUS by overriding preferences.

Hi team,

Is there any way, like setting max CPU = 0, to avoid crunching ATLAS tasks?

My machine has good CPU but little ram and they come, I am lost :)

Thx in advance¡

I tried with no luck, running only theory:

<app>
<name>Theory</name>
<app_version>
<app_name>Theory</app_name>
<plan_class>vbox64_mt_mcore_theory</plan_class>
<avg_ncpus>2.0</avg_ncpus>
<cmdline>--nthreads 2</cmdline>
</app_version>
</app>

<app>
<name>ATLAS</name>
<app_version>
<app_name>ATLAS</app_name>
<plan_class>vbox64_mt_mcore_atlas</plan_class>
<avg_ncpus>0</avg_ncpus>
<cmdline>--nthreads 2</cmdline>
</app_version>
</app>

Indeed. I will try to avoid such tasks, but scheduler only sends me atlas, even If I cancell nonstop while not even downloaded.

Well, Atlas credits have dropped to half during the last week or so. We would like to know why.

Because I am behind a pool and cant so do. I wish I could.

Hello,

If you don't want to run ATLAS, why don't you just remove it from your preferences?

Hi team,

I just noticed there is a huge differente in credits between Atlas and Theory.

Atlas is, at least, half (or I dont understand something, which could be :) ).

Example:

Is there any reason? I am cancelling Atlas manually when it comes so as I just run whaetever but Atlas.

Hi,

I did as suggested. I simply "suspend" the task via boincmanager, go to Vbox and see how the image running changes its status to "saved" and let it be for couple of mins untill I do same with next task. Monitoring disk I/O to be sure is done.
When I turn on my machine I resume one by one, following same approach. Always giving some extra monute, just in case.

It worked with Atlas perfectly :)

Thx¡

Morning,

This is exactly what I meant, I didn't want to tlak about what my host is running or not running :)

I understood there is no "official" image built with such conf...maybe is time to spend some effort in such image by the community?

Hi,

I didn't want to talk about my host because of that. I know I am on windows but my doubt has nothing to do with my current host.

Nevertheless, I think you pointed the answer: ->"Is not recommended to install a Linux in a VM and run native from there "<- This is thew point

Therefore, if would need to keep using VM as usual.

Thx anyway¡

Not sure if I can assign + 1 CPU once is started. Will try

This is my host.

And now, I still have the question: we are just trying to figure out if this is possible (yes, is not only me who has this "doubt")

We are all unpayed crunchers who just want to find out better (and more efficient) ways to use our machines.

In the thousands of posts, there is no "answer" for this topic, if it was that easy we would have found it as we found out how to install and run native apps in a linux system. Now we are thinking about running such linux from VM directly, instead of using time installing all the stuff neeeded in each host...

Thx in advance if anyone has ever fought with this :(

Hi,

I understand what you mean.

But I was talking about something else: If it is possible to run a native Atlas in a linux environment ..why not running such linux in a VM instad of being running "normal" VM tasks which are downloading images, loading them 1 by one, etc? You turn on your pc, load your linux image with native and let it be. Instead of 1 image per task.

Who cares how am I running now? Question remains the same:)

Why Am I wonring about this?

- Resumes and suspends are not working very well in Vm tasks.
- Time is wasted each time task is over (unload image, load new one...etc).

Then, I misundersttod something: What are those "how to run native apps" forum explanations for then?

Do you know where can I download such image, load in VBox and "forget"?

Thx in advance

Hi team,

I was just wondering: Isn't there an image with all stuff done ready to crunch? I mean, I download it, use Virtualbox and run it, having insise the native apps.

In the end of the day, we are running VM anyway, seems to be "easier", isn't it? At least we would not be loading and unloading 1 image per task

On the other hand, is a million times easier for a non extra experienced user, to just download and load a linux VM and crunch than following the instructions (is quite long...)

Thx¡
Javi

Thx for this usefull and constructive comment.

Definetely, I will once again by doing as you suggested and check results. My Pc has slow HD ..anyway, lets see.

Is not a matter of credits by waste of time and impotence: I had to reebot my machine once a day for 3 days in a row so I could not reach 200 events in any day...and job started from scratch day after :(

Meanwhile, I am crunching Theory, which seems to be shorter and , if resume is not working, not that many hours are wasted.

Have a nice day¡

Hi team,

I am running Atlas in windows with real Vbox. I can see the monoting screen (ctr-alt-f2) and it progresses as it should.

However, I have no clue how to handle the situation, when I need to restart my system. I need to do it "often" but I dont want to loose already computed events.

Which is the safest way? I have tried "suspend" from boinc manager but when it comes backs, I see events restarted (or at least, "already finished" starts from 0).

Thc in advance¡

Javi F
